Mission: Sand Sea Fun and Surf

Previously on Star Trek Tokyo:

"Oh, so we're suddenly no longer allowed to call you pet names?" Chiyo challenged. "Ensign, the Starfleet Marine Corps does more for you regs than you even realize. Hell, if it weren't for the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters, we might not be able to be here enjoying a game of beach volleyball, so I'd suggest you show us marines a little more respect."

"Captain, are you serious?" Teela replied without calling her ma'am because her temper was flaring. "A person is unconscious on the sand and your only concern is about what you can or cannot say? Do you believe only marines make sacrifices? Now THAT is a true insult. I am done speaking with all of you." She took a step closer to Captain Shimada. "If you have a problem, send a full report to Lieutenant Commander Moklor. I've said my piece."

And now the continuation...

The Orion woman turned and walked back towards Fubuki.

"Oh, he'll hear my report alright, mark my words!" Chiyo called after her.

"You're clear to continue to play but I'll pull you out of the game if you get another head injury," Febin cautioned.

"I'm sure it was an accident." Silica said trying to lighten the mood with a nervous smile. "We can all get carried away sometimes..."

"And I believe it was." Liz said. "However, one of your own has chosen to insult the corps instead of letting us handle this matter between ourselves, and if you think Captain Shimada is going to let open insults to the corps fly, well, clearly you don't know Captain Shimada all that well..."

During this whole episode Ensign Teela did not notice that Gunnery Sergeant Aren Na Eth had not moved from the position of parade rest. In fact, he stood rock still at parade rest, he had yet to be released from First Sergeant Vespertine or any other senior marine from said position. He was demonstrating to anyone the absolute discipline instilled in him as a marine. This would indicate to anyone with knowledge of marine's, especially elite marine's, there discipline at following orders and that the spike had not been meant to harm Lieutenanat j.g. Kuchikukan.

Meanwhile Sergeant Major D'hetr was trying her damnedest not to burst out laughing at Ensign Teela and her tirade. The young ensign had no idea that both Gunny Eth and she had been dressed down by the best of the best in the Corps during their arduous journey to become enlisted marines, then elite marines. The two of them had also been tested and battle-hardened on some of the bloodiest missions of the Dominion war.

Or at least the two enlisted assumed Ensign Teela didn’t notice. She noticed quite clearly, yet she did not care. Military service had not yet warped her mind into caring more about rules and regulations than about the well-being of her injured shipmate. What the enlisted seemed to forget was that a brand new officer ignored their experience and status as senior members and chose to speak down to them in front of their team. Ensign Teela knew very well the line she crossed when she voiced her displeasure and disrespect.

Laughing off the encounter would be the best way to save face.

Without warning and quite quickly Taiga suddenly appeared. She stood there on the edge of the pitch, on the line next to the net. "A-hem..." she cleared her throat. It seemed obvious, Captain Aisaka wanted this to stop, right there, right now.

Sergeant Major Vespertine and Gunnery Sergeant Eth instantly snapped to attention. Ramrod straight. Here it comes, thought Vespertine, going to get the 'OFFICIAL' ass chewing.

Ensign Teela knelt beside Fubuki once again, "Do you have what you need to treat her here doctor, or does she need to be sent to sickbay?" The Orion noticed the Captain but placed her emphasis on the injured crew member.

Fubukis eyes fluttered as she started to come around. After a few seconds she was staring up at the bright sky. "What... happened?" She asked still slightly dazed.

"Well... to put things bluntly, you took a volleyball to the face," Nozomi admitted.

Fubuki slowly sat up. "That would explain why my head hurts..." she said as she rubbed her head. "A little embarrassing though..." she added blushing a bright shade of magenta.

That was the bursting point for Sergeant Major Vespertine; upon hearing lieutenant Kuchikukan comment, she burst out laughing. "By the Thousand Gods and the Vulcan Inner Chorus you Lieutenant have the making of a marine." she said as she was laughing. "And you Ensign Teela are one brave little pilot; you attempted to dressed down two elite marine corps combat veterans, I know that myself and Gunnery Sergeant Eth here owe you two as many drinks as you can handle." She finally realized what she had done and instantly came back to the position of attention My apologies Captain Aisaka and Captain Shimada, I meant no disrespect to either of you."

Ensign Teela forced a smile. She didn't feel any sudden change in emotion, but understood where the Sergeant Major was coming from. Once again she looked to Fubuki. The young lieutenant JG seemed to be doing somewhat better. "My concern was for my teammate", Teela replied. "My emotions are genuine. But maybe I was a bit tense."

Ens. Talanna Teela did admire the other Orion woman's toughness.

Silica helped Fubuki to her feet. She locked eyes with the marine. "We're not going out so easily!" She told them. "Let's go again! We're tougher than we look!"

"Um... not to rain on your parade, but you did just take a volleyball to the face, Lieutenant," Nozomi pointed out. "No one's going to blame you if you want to sit it out for a few minutes."

"Says the girl who tried fighting the Tal Shiar despite a concussion." Iowa reminded.

"Okay, I guess you've got me on that one," Nozomi chuckled.

"Well then, guess it is one to zero and we have the serve." said Vespertine. "That is if Lieutenant Kuchikukan is up to it. If she feels a need to sit it out, then we can have Gunny Eth sit it out as well."

Fubuki still seemed a little wobbly on her feet. But managed to right herself. "I'm not giving up!" She told them confidently.

"Right then", Ensign Teela said as she stood, brushed sand from one knee and walked back where she had been standing. "Let's get this over with." She stretched her calves by raising the arches of her feet. A quick twist of the neck and a swinging of her hair helped her fall back into what felt like the proper stance.

"I'm starting to like this girl," Nozomi whispered to Iowa with a mischievous grin. "She has the gall to be talking up to the marines, and then she goes back to acting like nothing happened? Have we seen her around before?"

"No, I don't believe so." Iowa whispered back. "I think she's among the new blood."

The Orion ensign giggled a little as she heard bits of Nozomi and Iowa's conversation.

"I believe serving goes to us on the restart?" Chiyo said. "If that's the case, prepare yourselves, because despite what you claim, we Marines clear the way for you regs."

Vespertine smiled warmly at the starfighter's "Okay Gunny no more fireball spikes, we play nice with our brethren in the Starfighter Corps. Lieutenant Kuchikukan please try and not take any more volleyball's to the noggin, and Ensign Teela, remember we are marines over here, and you are rocking that swim wear."

"Thanks, Sergeant Major", Ensign Teela replied sheepishly. She was a little embarrassed that she had gotten so angry. It showed her protective side. She began to wonder why seeing her teammate hurt brought her so much anger. Perhaps she would find a ship's counselor and debate this later. "I have to say the same to you... Really to your entire team.. Fit and fashionable, I should say."

Talanna Teela let her guard down and shared a warm smile. An aggressive body posture showed she was still ready for the serve.

For the restart, the ball went to Chiyo, the team captain of the marine team to serve. She tossed the ball high up in the air and gave it a hard smack on the way down, sending it hurtling over the net towards the starfighter pilots.

"Think fast!" Chiyo exclaimed as she served the restart.

The game went on, both the Marines and Starfighters playing well. However there could of be one winner. Unfortunately Silica just missed the ball causing the Marines to score the winning point.

"Don't beat yourself up about it..." Fubuki assured her. "They have advantage on the ground, but our playground is the depths of space," she smiles. "It was all in good fun!"

"Yeah, are you sure you're alright though?" Silica replied.

"I'm fine, really. Now let's just enjoy the rest of the tournament!"

Silica nodded. This was indeed fun, and a bit of friendly competition never harmed anyone... well, unless your name happens to be Fubuki Kuchikukan, at which point you kiss volleyballs...
