| Personal History | Chiyo was born Chiyo Mabuchi in 2357, the only child of freight moguls Yoshitake and Ichika Mabuchi. Her upbringing was relatively serene, though in her adolescence, she began to gravitate towards the "greaser" subculture of the mid 20th century: Lots of leather, fast motorcycles, and rock and roll. When Chiyo was in her early 20s and closing in on her four year degree, she met Tatsuo Shimada, a Starfleet officer serving aboard the USS Redemption with just the right amount of alluring swagger. The two of them hit it off almost instantly; when Chiyo graduated university in 2378, Tatsuo turned the ensuing celebration into one which wiped away Chiyo's innocence. About 4 years after Chiyo graduated, Tatsuo dropped on one knee and asked her hand in marriage. The two of them got engaged shortly before Tatsuo's LOA was about to run out, and the Redemption was a smaller vessel that didn't allow families on board for their safety. So Tatsuo promised his now-fiancé that they'd be married after his current tour of service was up. Weeks later, however; Chiyo received devastating news: The Redemption had been reported lost, and all crew were presumed dead, including Tatsuo. Things were further complicated when days later, she found out she was pregnant with Tatsuo's child. Shortly afterwards, Chiyo showed up to enlist in the Starfleet Marine Corps as an officer after having legally changed her name to Shimada from Mabuchi. After having gone through all the necessary officer training, Chiyo was assigned to the newly-commissioned USS Redemption A with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Chiyo soon proved herself a capable soldier, even as her belly grew, and eventually, her daughter Alice came into the galaxy, and within two years, she was reassigned to the USS Williamson as a Squadron Leader. In 2387, after 3 years of faithful service aboard the Williamson as a Squadron Leader, Chiyo was selected to replace the USS Morgan's 2nd Platoon Commander, who had been killed in action. Though Chiyo was honored to accept the assignment, it meant saying goodbye to the comrades aboard the Williamson whose trust and respect she had earned. When Chiyo reported in on the Morgan, another surprise was waiting for her: After almost five years, she was finally recognized as being worthy enough for a promotion to 1st Lieutenant. Chiyo vowed to make good on this promotion, and to be an even better soldier and officer than she had been as a 2nd Lieutenant. By 2391, the Morgan's Marine Command Staff recommended that Chiyo begin seeking out a position as a Marine Vice Commander, as they agreed her talent was beginning to stagnate as a Platoon Commander, and they would vouch for her if she encountered resistance to the idea. After browsing a few listings for open Marine Vice Commanders, Chiyo finally found a listing aboard the USS Marston and put in a transfer request; a request she was surprised to have approved. After two years of service aboard the Marston, Chiyo found her collar slightly heavier with a promotion to Captain. Chiyo would serve two more years on the Marston before she was due in for a refit that would take well over a year to complete. The Marston's Marine Commander highly urged Chiyo to not wait for the refit and be satisfied being a Vice Commander, and to instead seek out her own Marine Command. Chiyo browsed the listings, but none of the ships seeking Marine Commanders seemed appealing to her, and for a while, Chiyo seemed content to work a desk job until that one assignment crossed her desk that she had to leap on. Then one day, as Chiyo was browsing open listings for Marine Commanders, her eye caught an interesting opportunity: The USS Tokyo was seeking a new Marine Commander. Chiyo saw this as the perfect opportunity that she had been waiting for, and she applied for the vacant position. |
