Mission:
Starship Graveyard
Location: Conference Room, Deck 1, USS Tokyo
"Captains Log. Its been just over a month since we crash landed on this planet and a lot has already happened. The surviving crew of the Starship Redemption have joined the crew of the Tokyo. Luckily we have only encountered a few rocky patches with their intergration into our crew. Lieutenant Shimada has proven that he is not only an excellent leader, but has been essential in bridging the gap between the two crews.
We have had a few of our Starfighter Pilots return over the last few days. Lieutenant Commander Moklor did well to get the pilots who crashed back tot he Tokyo. We are still missing some, so far I have declared the Missing in Action until we find evidence that they are alive or... not.
The Tokyo repairs are going slowly. However the salvaged parts from the Starship Redemption have helped with that. My Chief Engineer still has a lot of work to do if we are to ever get into space again, but I am determined to get off this planet one way or the other.
I have called a senior staff briefing for this morning. I came up with an idea last night which I think may help us boost our curent power reserves; something we have lacked from the moment we crashed down here. It's dangerous, but I believe that it will help us greatly with our chances of survival.
End Log
Taiga waited patiently in the conference room. At now eleven weeks pregnant her baby bump was starting to become noticable through her uniform. Her belly was starting to look more 'plump' and 'rounded out'. She stood by the large windows looking out over the hull of the Tokyo and the sandy dunes beyond whilst holding her belly.
As Chiyo and Tatsuo made their way into the conference room, a troubled expression on Chiyo's face was evident, as the marine commander's mind was still on a conversation she had had with Captain Beurling in her office beforehand, and she hadn't quite worked up the nerve to talk to Tatsuo about it just yet.
Not far behind the Shimadas, a small troupe of Intel officers led by Commander Nishikigi shuffled in and took their seats. Taiga had to admit, while there were days where she missed Alora's level of proficiency, Chisato and her band of odd jobs had their own unique way of getting things done; ask a favor of them, and Chisato would have her team on it like white on rye, combing through the most obscure files for even the slightest bits of information. Their keen eye for detail would no doubt prove invaluable for this briefing.
Talia entered the Conference Room, at 12 weeks pregnant her slim frame was also showing the unmistakable signs of her condition. Now that she was past the morning sickness stage she was feeling much better, and the ‘glow’ that pregnant women were said to give off was definitely evident. “Good Morning” she smiled warmly acknowledging those in the room as she took her seat.
Shipboard power and its effective distribution had been a priority over the past month, and so Nezuko had rounds to make with her team before she could get to the senior staff meeting. She and Rea and Amari had an efficient morning routine, and given the problems that might arise with power failures, she decided to finish the rounds first. Satisfied that grid maintenance was in hand for the morning, she swapped out her rebreather battery (an increasingly frequent activity!) and slid into a seat near Talia.
Thomas walked into the room, nodded to those in attendance, and sat in between Talia, and Lt Nezuko... habit now, being able to communicate for Nezuko, if something needed to be voiced. Also, due to the fact, that she shared his concern.
Moklor arrived surprisingly late. He had been working with a team of Engineers who that were in the midst of overhauling his fighter. The stubborn Klingon had sprained his ankle during the crash, but refused to acknowledge it. It didn't hurt bad enough for him to limp, just enough to remind him how fortunate he'd been to land without injury.
The fighter pilot set a PADD on the table in front of him as he sat.
Tailing closely behind Moklor were the pilots who had survived the ordeal alongside him. Consisting of Lieutenants Riverside and Ingelbard, along with Ensigns Kagamine and Kobayashi, it was a fairly mismatched group, to say the least. But with still no signs that any of their fellow pilots had survived the initial downing- friends, brethren, loved ones, and all manner of titles- the five of them had remained surprisingly close-knit over the past month. Even Ensign Kobayashi, who was typically a "lone wolf" of sorts- as Triumph Squadron's near-death encounter over Gamma Zendor had shown- could be observed assisting the stricken Lieutenant Riverside into her seat before moving to take his regular place propped up against a bulkhead.
Vyse fell in behind his Commander. There was a brace on his leg, but it was healing well.
Len followed quietly, he was still worried about Rin hoping that she had survived and was on her way back. He seemed nervous, afterall he was a newbie ensign and this was the first time he had been asked to attend such a briefing with the higher ranks.
The conference room door opened and Amari headed in, she looked a little disheveled from working outside for the majority of the day and had little chance to freshen up before being asked to come along with Lt Rea to this briefing; one of many the Elfie had asked her to attend.
Kylynn made her way to the conference room. "Lieutenant Kylynn adams reporting for duty" she said.
Once everyone had arrived, Taiga started the meeting. "Right everyone, I had an idea last night." She started. "We now know that there is a Borg Cube also stranded on this planet, thanks to our pilots who have returned along with Commander Moklor." She began. She stood up from her chair and made her way to the wall screen. She tapped on it to bring up an image of a pyramid device.
"The Borg use these Power Nodes to store and distribute power. Starfleet has come across them before, and they can store and generate enough power for only a few to run a whole starship." She explained. "They are literally littered all over Borg ships, naturally they need a lot of power for the thousands of drones and their systems." She looked around at the staff. "If we had a few of these, we could easily boost power to our systems. Maybe even enough to get give our engines the boost they need to get off this planet."
Moklor squinted to study the image of the pyramid shaped node. He entered a few notes on his PADD and grunted quietly. He wondered how the nodes could be applied to boost fighter capabilities.
"So, we're going to 'liberate' a few of them from their ship." Taiga said simply.
"With all due respect to this plan, Captain," Chisato was first to speak up. "An operation of this scale is going to be a considerable undertaking; even if we do have the added benefit of certain crew members who have successfully taken on the Borg in the past..." -she gestured towards Chiyo to emphasize her point- "...The Borg aren't exactly a force you'd want to be messing with on a good day, let alone when we're stranded on a desert planet and not even up to full operational status. If we're going to be ballsy enough to try and steal from them, we're going to have to guarantee that we can pull this off on the first try; if we fail, everything we've been working towards this past month will fall like a house of cards, and we'll be no better off than the Redemptioners were before us."
"And that doesn't begin to factor in whether or not those nodes will be compatible with our firmware," Takina added. "...or if they'll just assimilate our systems the minute we try to hook them up."
"We've made Borg technology work before, and desperate times call for Desperate measures," Taiga said simply as she crossed her arms, clearly not amused. "They have the technology that we need to survive. And it won't assimilate the ship, their nanoprobes aren't present in those nodes." She said.
"However..." she tapped on the screen to bring up a new image. "These are bio-dampners. Invented by the Hansons and discovered by the crew of the Starship Voyager. They essentially 'hide' you from the Borg sensors. We have the schematics in our database, the away team will be wearing these for added protection."
Moklor grinned at the thought of the bio dampeners. Such capabilities would be extremely useful. The tall, dark-skinned Klingon leaned forward eagerly.
Amari picked up a Padd and pulled the specs of the bio-dampners from the database and began to read up on them, technology that could completely mask a persons biological signature was most intriguing to her.
