Mission:
The Nursery
Location: Pilots Briefing Room
[Pilots Briefing Room]
The pilots briefing room was a large room that resembled a lecture theatre found in most Universities. Rows of seating with desks and computer consoles spammed around the room in a semi circle. There were five rows, each stepped up so everyone had a clear view of the front. At the very front of the room was a raised platform, control podium and on the wall large viewscreen for mission briefings.
The room had received upgrades and could now comfortably seat the sixty pilots, each in a row of fifteen. The very top row was for TIC staff and support staff who also may be needed at any briefing. There was now two doors into the room after the refit. The same door that led to the corridor, but now on the opposite side was a new door. This led to a small private lounge style room. It had once being storage space, but was now a private briefing lounge so that the CAG and other ships senior officers could plan and go through details before briefing the pilots.
The acting Commander Air Group, Fubuki Kuchikukan, commonly known by her call sign 'snowflake' had ordered the pilots to gather in the briefing room. She was told that Captain Aisaka, Commander Johnson, Lieutenant Yuvek and a Miss Daxer would be assisting with the briefing too. No doubt to organise co-ordination between the Tokyo and the sixty starfighters that would be deployed.
Thomas walked into the room, he had been here once before, on his initial arrival to the ship when he took a tour. Noticing only one other person in the group, was in the room.
"Snowflake... am I correct Lt?" Thomas inquired regarding her call sign. "Trying to figure out all the call signs... in regular circles, calling someone snowflake would be an insult."
Fubuki nodded. "Yes sir. It's a play on my name." She said with a smile. "My given name 'Fubuki' when written in Kanji means 'blizzard', bit on my flight training we already had a pilot with that call sign. Hence I got the name 'snowflake'," she explained to him. "But I'm far from delicate," she smirked.
"Would never think that Lt. But it is a nice play."
Jennifer Daxer was the next person to enter the briefing room.. Though the room was primarily the same as she'd last saw it, there were a few differences. Without a word, she took a seat in one of the chairs situated on the platform at the front of the room.
As she had been since her initial arrival, the woman was dressed in a civilian outfit that consisted of black jeans, black sneakers, a white t-shirt, and a black leather jacket. Attached to her hip was a holstered 21st century handgun.
Taiga arrived shortly after Jen. She walked over to Fubuki. "Ready to lead these pilots Lieutenant?" She asked simply, giving Fubuki a reassuring smile of encouragement.
Fubuki nodded in response, her fists clenching. "Yes Captain. I think I can do this. It's my first time as CAG, but I believe u can pull this plan off."
Smiling Taiga put a hand on the young Lieutenants shoulder. "Don't worry ok. We're all family here, you've got a good bunch of pilots here. Theyll keep your course true."
"Thankyou Captain. I'll do my best." She replied, a tone of eagerness in her voice. It was clear that she was enthusiastic to please.
The doors swished open and Lieutenant Jasad Yuvek entered with a padd in his hand. He was still running the different simulations based on the plans that he , Lieutenant Nezuko, and Graesyn had come up with. He was still concerned about how long he could keep the ship in one piece once the Tal'Shiar undoubtedly appeared and began to open fire on the single vessel.
He walked over a a nearby chair and took a seat. As the Chief Helmsman, he did not find himself in the pilot Briefing Room too often. He never felt the need since he had no direct control over the Starfury's and their mission objectives were independent of his role in piloting the massive carrier. He looked around at those that had arrived and acknowledged the Commander Johnson.
"Sir." Lt. Yuvek stated.
"Lt." He nodded to the newly arrived helmsman. Noticing the evident concern look on the Cardassians face. It was a look he had seen on many of the ships crew. Concern about the elachi, and the fact they were in league with the tal shiar. Who were working with the Iconians. That was a curve ball. The thought to be extinct. Given their level of technology. It was hard to believe that they were still out there.
Not long after Jasad had gotten himself situated, the first handful of pilots began to filter in, with none other than Triumph Squadron and it's newly-appointed leader being amongst the first to arrive. Admittedly, Lieutenant Kusuda was a strange pick to replace the now-retired Lieutenant Riverside, for while the latter had several centuries of flight experience under her belt, the former had just over a year of that experience to show for her efforts. But what Nozomi had lacked in airtime, she was more than eager to make up for, and depending on whom you asked, word on the ship was that she had spent the entirety of her vacation time training up on complex flight maneuvers in the holodeck. Of course, it may have helped matters that- with what little experience she did have at her disposal- she arguably had the most experience out of her squadron of (relatively young) rookies and wash-ups.
A misfit leader for a misfit squadron, but damned if she wasn't qualified for the role.
"Captain," Nozomi greeted as her surcharges assumed their seats. "Triumph Squadron is present and accounted for."
Taiga gave Nozomi a nod in response.
The door opened next for Aika and Vyse, in a heated debate about what the best old Earth fighter plane was the best. It was not the first time that argument had started up, nor would it be the last. But it was silenced when they saw the Captain and First Officer. They each nodded and picked seats near their respective squadrons. The argument would continue later.
Silica, Rin, Len and the other Pilots soon followed suit into the room. They all made their way up into the seating rows and took seats.
Once all the pilots had gathered and sat down at their seats, Taiga cleared her throat to quieten the room. "Ok everyone." She started. "As you are all aware we are en route to the Remella System. Our mission is to attack an Elachi facility in this system and rescue captives from inside." Taiga stated. "We're going to need every bit of firepower and skill to pull this off. I have already updated Lieutenant Kuchikukan on the details of the system and now it is time we came up with a plan of attack."
No sooner were the words out of her mouth that Nozomi's hand immediately went up.
Taiga nodded towards Nozomi, allowing her to speak.
"What exactly is our role in this operation?" Nozomi asked, speaking on behalf of the Flight Wing at large.
"To get into that Nursery facility, quickly and get our people out." Taiga explained. She looked over towards Fubuki. "We have several plans, that we are going to go through." She indicated to Fubuki to take the lead.
Stepping up to the middle podium, Fubuki tapped on its controls. A chart of the Remella system appeared on the screen. "This is the most recent scan of the Remella system provided to us." She started. "As you can see, the target is shown here."
A flashing circle appeared around a strange structure towards the middle of the system. It was set onto a barren asteroid like moon around one of the planets. "Captain Aisaka has suggested that we launch from an adjacent moon on the opposite side of the planet." Fubuki explained. The image rotated to show another moon on the far side of the same planet.
Taiga looked over at Jased. "We'll need you to drop us out of warp at the right moment. So that we're directly behind that moon Lieutenant. We're hoping that being there will make us invisible to the Elachi's sensors."
Lt. Yuvek nodded. It seemed simple enough to arrive in the system and allow the moon to mask their arrival. Assuming the gravitational pull of the moon wasn't too significant, Lt. Yuvek could use it to guide the Carrier just over its northern axis without the need to draw attention to itself through the use of impulse engines.
Fubuki nodded as she tapped on the controls again. The image changed to show the Tokyo and the sixty fighters lined up next to the target moon. "I have suggested we form a V-Shape. Tokyo in the center, and two full starfighter wings both port and starboard." Fubuki explained. "Tokyo can then also extend its shields around any squadron if needed..."
"Wouldn't a diamond-slot formation be more energy-efficient for the shield extensions?" Hanna spoke up.
Fubuki shook her head. "We want to hit them with everything we've got. So all weapons forward."
"The next stage of my plan is simple. We stick in close formation, come around the moon over the planets northern pole. We know that the magnetic interference should keep us invisible to enemy sensors until we clear it." Fubuki explained to the room. She looked around at the pilots. "Of course, it will blind our sensors too. So we'll be flying purely on sight alone..."
