Personality & Traits

General Overview Due to constantly being overshadowed by some of the more notable members on her family tree, Lynette suffers from a lack of self-confidence when it comes to her own abilities. (I'll add more here, but I'm drawing a bit of a blank)
Strengths & Weaknesses +A dependable fighter pilot; perhaps not great, but can be relied on to get the job done.

+Wealthy

+

-Shy and under-confident

-Deeply Closeted

-
Ambitions Lynette's most recent ambition has been to ask out a young Flight Deck Medic who is serving with her aboard the Tokyo, though she's been having difficulty working up the confidence to come forward and pose the question.
Hobbies & Interests -Cooking: Lynette and her older siblings learned a great deal about preparing meals while their parents were away, to the point where she's learned several recipes by heart. She occasionally likes to challenge herself and learn a new recipe or two, even in environments where replicators are easily accessible.

Personal History Lynette Bishop was born on June 11, 2374, as the fourth in what would eventually come to be 8 children. Hailing from an established upper-class family with longstanding ties in Starfleet, Lynette found often found herself the subject of unwanted attention, which resulted in her becoming self-aware of how inherently "plain" she was in contrast to some other prominent members of her family.

With her mother time-and-again leaving home to answer the call of duty, Lynette and her older siblings would often find themselves with long stretches of time where their father would call upon them to assist in caring for the younger members of the Bishop family. Having to divvy up the workload led to Lynette developing domestic and practical habits, such as cooking and good housekeeping.

Growing up, Lynette became incredibly close with her eldest sister, Wilma, a figure whom she would often turn to for guidance. Wilma was always more than happy to listen to her younger sister's insecurities, and to be a voice of reason when Lynette's self-confidence was at its lowest. Knowing that the expectations riding on her were weighing heavily on Lynette, Wilma encouraged her not to compare herself to the success of her forbears and instead follow a more modest path in life, putting the skills she was already good at (housekeeping, cooking, and childcare) to use as a maid, or even a midwife. For a few years at least, Lynette warmed up to the idea, and began to adjust her educational curriculum with the hopes of pursuing a career in professional housekeeping.

However, that all changed on Wilma's seventeenth birthday, where she made a bombshell announcement that she had submitted an application to her local Starfleet Recruitment Office and was planning to go into the field of Security and Tactical beginning the following semester. And as if the loss of her closest sister wasn't already a blow to Lynette's morale, the following summer, her eldest brother, Tyler, made the announcement on his seventeenth birthday that he too would be applying for Starfleet Academy, with the hopes of obtaining a Masters in Propulsion Sciences. With his pending departure, Lynette began to reassess her long-term goals, along with whether or not she was simply content to live out her life in the shadow of her family's success.

As she bloomed into her adolescence and began attending preparatory school, Lynette was forced to reckon with another ugly truth; men were of absolutely no interest to her, and yet she couldn't help but feel attraction towards her female classmates. While homosexuality was not an uncommon practice (as a matter of fact, it was readily accepted), Lynette was uncomfortable with the feelings she was harboring towards her female friends (especially considering that most of them already had boyfriends) and opted to keep them bottled up. It wasn't until Wilma unexpectedly stopped over for summer break one year when Lynette finally worked up the courage to come out to her sister, because if there was any one person in the galaxy she trusted to be understanding, it would-- first and foremost-- be Wilma. Though she wasn't sure what to expect in regards to Wilma's reaction, she was surprised when her older sister hugged her and promised that her door would always remain open if Lynette needed someone to talk to, no matter the distance or whatever circumstances might come between them. It was perhaps in that moment of reconciliation that Lynette was struck with an epiphany; no longer content with leading a life of mediocrity, she wanted to be out there, amongst the stars, blazing trails with her older sister. So against her better judgement, on her seventeenth birthday, she got up early, made her way over to her local recruitment office, and submitted an application for Starfleet Academy.

Lynette formally enrolled in Starfleet Academy in the fall of 2391; having been studying for a career in housekeeping until fairly recently, Lynette was unsure of which career path best suited her, so at Wilma and Tyler's suggestion, she took a placement test to determine which fields she would possibly excel at. Perhaps somewhat to her surprise, she discovered that she possessed a fair bit of know-how on the operation and upkeep of fighter craft, likely due to the stories her uncle (himself a pilot) would share when he came to visit for the holidays. Though she had her reservations with serving directly on the front lines, Lynette was willing to do just about anything to prove herself, and altered her curriculum to better fit her intended field.

Lynette's tenure at the Academy was relatively unremarkable, as she was less concerned about standing out than she was about getting her degree. She graduated uneventfully in 2395 and was immediately shipped out (along with several other recent Academy Graduates) aboard the USS Tokyo (NCC-91101), which was in the process of replenishing its fighter compliment following a confrontation with an Elachi ship over the Romulan Colony of Alvatar.
