Personal History Vyse was born on the Iadara Colony in 2365. He was the first of two children of Steffan and Karina, immigrants to the colony as children, who as young adults started working at the colony’s engineering design firms for which it became famous.

When Vyse was three, his parents gave birth to his little sister Monika, who unfortunately was born with underdeveloped lungs, requiring significant time in the hospital. Vyse stayed with his parents’ best friends, James and Jessica Thompson, and their three year old daughter Aika, with whom Vyse would become fast and permanent friends. They spent their childhoods dreaming of exploring the galaxy, going on adventures large and small, flying by the seats of their pants. They learned flight as early as they could, knowing they would one day have their own little ship to fly wherever they wanted.

It seemed that no matter what problems life threw at Vyse or Aika, they were able to overcome it. When Aika’s parents died in a Jem’Hadar attack, they pulled through and she came to live with the Ingelbards. When as teens they got in a big fight with wannabe Syndicate thugs, giving Vyse a nasty scar and damaging the lens on one of his eyes, they managed to get off-planet and begin their grand exploration of the galaxy. Vyse’s parents, knowing the planet wasn’t safe for their son or adoptive daughter, gave them what resources they could (including the family shuttle), filled out the forms to declare them legally emancipated, and bid them farewell.

From age 16 to 21, Vyse and Aika flew their little shuttle wherever they wanted, going to and fro in search of adventure and fun. They found little jobs for a few weeks at a time to help pay the bills, but otherwise they just flew where the winds seemed to take them.

In 2387, on the planet Archanis IV, they decided to step in and help a bunch of Starfleet cadets who were defending displaced Romulans from Klingons committing a hate crime. They got beaten up good, but their intervention helped delay the Klingons until Starfleet Security could intervene properly. While recuperating in hospital with the cadets, someone suggested that they might do some good in Starfleet. Vyse looked into it and saw that there were quite a few stories of epic heroism and battling for lost causes among Starfleet crews. With that attitude, and with his and Aika’s piloting skills, they managed to get into the Academy (albeit a few years older than their classmates) and joined the Starfighter Corps.

Vyse and Aika graduated in 2391 and were posted at the distant Starfleet outpost of Golovin Colony, on the far side of Klingon space, flying a mix of Peregrine, Valkyrie, and McCall fighters. They defended against new threats, fended off raiders, and patrolled the endless dark night beyond Federation space.

Vyse and Aika were number three and four of Tàiyáng Valkyrie Squadron, doing a flyby of distant Fortuna Colony, when their next hopeless cause came about. The leadership of Fortuna thought themselves beyond the reach of the Federation and Starfleet and formed their own fiefdom, deciding to impose their own rules against the civilian population. Sentient Rights violations were flagrant. Tàiyáng Squadron intercepted a distress call from a group of civilians wanting help to rid their colony of would-be tyrants. The rulers of Fortuna fired upon Tàiyáng Squadron, destroying One, Two, and Five and forcing the other three down to the planet. Tàiyáng Four couldn’t be salvaged, and the other two suffered enough damage that they were in serious danger of catastrophic failure if they were hit even once by Fortuna’s anti-air defenses. Vyse and Aika, sharing a very tight cockpit, flew directly against the AA guns, dodging as best they could, distracting the guns while Tàiyáng Six flew back to home base with a witness of the Fortuna leadership’s crimes. Vyse achieved this by essentially removing the warp engines, reducing the weight and making enough power available for supercharged impulse engines and inertial dampers. Tàiyáng Six got away, and Vyse and Aika took their ship down in the wilds outside the city and waited for recovery. Three days later, the USS Jupiter arrived onsite and deployed security personnel, seizing the colony, removing the leadership, and providing aid to those who suffered. Vyse and Aika each got promotions to Lieutenant junior grade.

In 2396, the pair was transferred to USS Tokyo to pilot two of the many Valkyries there.
