Mission:
The Elachi Return
Location: Observation Lounge
Timeline: After Taiga transfer to Myogi
Daxer stood waiting in the lounge. She was quietly staring out the large window, as she waited for the others to arrive. Things had not quite gone the way they were supposed to so far today, and now she had to hope the crew would show at least some trust in her judgement. All of this was going to be a very hard sell, and she knew it.
After securing the helm and passing it to the relief officer, Mikko entered the lounge. She looked at Daxer. "Did that just happen?" She asked as she hesitated to sit down.
Having deputised the repairs schedule, Hobb had made his way to the Observation Lounge. The Engineer had had scant time to clean himself up, having only a rag to wipe his hands as he took the turbolift ride up. He dumped himself in the nearest chair as he came in, running a hand through his sweat-mussed hair, and regretting not taking his overalls off caked in grime as they were.
'So. What's been going on?'
"Yes, Ensign... It happened." Daxer said, still looking out the window. She turned to face the two in the room, and sighed. "I'll explain everything, when the others have arrived. No point in telling it twice."
A few of the less seriously-injured TIC personnel had recently been released from Sickbay, and Shingo was late for the meeting, as he needed to get them to work to start rebuilding the TIC and coordinate the effort with Engineering. If the acting CO had a problem with it, she was free blame the bureaucracy.
"Lieutenant Nakazato's still in sickbay." Shingo explained as he arrived and settle into a chair. "He'll be there overnight: Until then, I'm acting Air Boss and you deal with me, cool?"
"Deal." Daxer said, as she looked at Shingo. The mask of Vulcan logic she'd had when arresting Taiga was gone, replaced by a more Human emotional response. "Just as long as you're willing to put up with me, Lieutenant."
Anne walked in quietly and took a seat.
Trigman came through the doors ; PADD and Coffee in hand moving to the nearest seat. The report of casualties and Flight Status ready.
Dawnah clutched the PADD to her chest as she quietly entered the Conference Room and found a chair closest to the Doors and placed the PADD on he table in front of her and her hands under the table out of sight for the most part. She is the ranking person to represent The Operations Department and this being her first opportunity to do such in a Department head meeting. She enjoyed her being Communications and mostly out of the way except her twice a week rotation on the Bridge that has also been moved to the Lead of Operation on Alpha shift.
As everyone filed in, and took their seats, Jennifer turned all business. She took a deep breath, straightening out her uniform shirt, before starting. "Ok, Here's the deal." She said simply. "Our Captain has been arrested, and charged with the destruction of Alvatar Colony; a event we all know she had nothing to do with. I want to help straighten this mess out, but I'm going to need your help, and cooperation to pull this off. Any objections?"
"Well, good luck fighting Admiral Miyahara on this one." Shingo piped up. "Word is, he's the roughest toughest son of a bitch in Starfleet. He's the type that will confine you to quarters if you get his coffee order wrong. Takeshi- I mean, Lieutenant Nakazato used to be the guy's third officer, and if you ask me, I think he still has a bit of a hard on for his principles. And, now that the admiral's been fed the lies, some real evidence to the contrary is going to need to be unearthed for him to change his mind, and I believe we all know that evidence is aboard the Prowler."
'If the Prowler is still in one piece,' Hobb shrugged as he spoke, 'last I heard they just disappeared off the scopes.' He looked at Daxer, 'you have no objections from me, Commander, we were responding to a distress signal - we did what was right, and the Captain doesn't deserve this treatment.' He swallowed after his speech. Having been just an Assistant Chief this morning, he wasn't sure how much his input would be appreciated.
Anne had looked for signs of the Prowler, all she found were signs that the Elachi ship jumping...somewhere. But if the other ship went with them, it didn't go by its own power. At the same time, there were no signs of it anywhere.
"For what it is worth I accumulated all the data off the surviving birds for the time in question." Trigman informed. "I know it might not be accepted but I figure the more information the better."
"Were they taking active scans?" Anne asked.
"Even if they weren't then their sensor logs should show something" Mikko said. "Afterall pilots use sensors to navigate as well as visual and audible aids" Mikko explained.
"Even if they don't, we have active scans of the ship that destroyed the colony, including scans of the inside." Daxer replied. "I want all of that sensor data on a PaDD, before we reach Earth." She sat down, sighing as she did. "What's our status?"
"Minimal engine power" Mikko replied she looked over towards the new Engineer. "The nacelles took heavy damage, so we're limited in speed" she reported simply.
"We're only just starting to get the TIC rebuilt." Shingo reported. "That's why I was late. Reconstruction will be slow-going until either I get some more of my guys, or engineering can spare a few more hands."
Hobb nodded as he heard the flood of reports from his fellow officers. 'Yeah, we're stretched pretty thin right now - we've prioritised engines and shielding systems for now, as we're heading back into Federation space with an escort. The TIC is ... well it's quite the job at the moment, so we've gotten started with Lieutenant Shoji's team's assistance.'
"Science has some labs that are offline, but nothing critical. We'll deal with what we have until the more crucial systems are repaired," Anne said.
"Let's put the TIC on hold, until we reach Space dock." Daxer said simply. "Make the engines your priority. I also want anyone that can be spared with medical training to assist in Sickbay... Call on the EMH if you have to."
'Not a problem, Commander. We'll deal with the engines as a priority, and move on to other systems if we can get them into a decent condition - we don't want to be late for the trial,' Hobb nodded in Daxer's direction and noted the change of orders on his PADD.
"Very well," Shingo sighed, also noting the change in orders on his PADD. "I'll see who I can reassign to engineering and who I can reassign to sickbay. If the TIC's a low priority, I'll go back to coordinating the effort with engineering from the bridge."
'Thank you, that'll be appreciated,' Hobb nodded in Shingo's direction.
"Has there been any word from, or any information concerning the Prowler?" Jen asked out of nowhere. In fact, it was the first time she'd mentioned the Prowler herself, Since Taiga was relieved of command.
Mikko sat there in silence. As far as she knew they hadn't picked up any sort of signal from the Prowler. She had been too focused on piloting the Tokyo at the time.
"Okay... Fine. Get me whatever data you can about the Prowler's disappearance." Daxer said, as the room remained silent. She knew asking about the Prowler was a long shot, but felt it was worth a try. "Does anyone else have anything to report?"
Hobb shook his head, 'nothing else from Engineering. What're our next steps regarding the Captain?'
"No, ma'am," Anne said. She wanted to go back to science and look through all the scans and see if she could find anything they'd overlooked.
"I have back checked the transmissions from the Nearest SUb-Space Relays in all directions." Dawnah added. "I have also not had any registration of the transponder in any given direction as check by Astrometrics. There is not communications evidence of the Prowler. I have a search program to highlight any transponder or communications from their Comm Call Sign."
"Aside from the TIC crew will be temporarily disbanded effective as soon as this meeting lets out, I've got nothing else." Shingo said, browsing the personnel files of the TIC staff he had out of sickbay and determining who to send where.
"I want all of the sensor data from the ship, and the fighter computers that relates to this incident, including schematics, tactical data, damage, and medical reports on a padd on my desk, before we reach Earth." Jen explained simply. "With the data, and your eye-witness reports, I don't see a reason for JAG to do anything other than dismiss the Captain back to duty."
"I'd agree with you under normal circumstances," Shingo said. "However, with someone like Admiral Miyahara standing in our way, the coming trial is going to be something we street racers like to call an uphill battle..."
"With the facts on our side, it won't matter what he thinks," Anne interjected.
'Exactly,' agreed Hobb, pointing in Anne's direction, 'he can think what he likes, JAG will give a fair trial, and so long as we have the relevant facts and data on our side, Miyahara will have to listen. Otherwise he's just one of those avatars of chaos he bangs on about.'
"You don't get it, do you?" Shingo asked, turning to face his fellow department heads for the first time since the meeting began. He considered going on about Admiral Miyahara, but decided against it. "Either way, I wouldn't expect Lieutenant Nakazato to remain loyal to us. Trust me, I know the guy, and he'd stab you in the back without question if he had a good enough reason to."
'That's quite the bombshell to drop, Lieutenant. And quite the accusation,' Hobb stated, before glancing over at the Commander, 'what do we do about that, Commander? Do we circumvent him? Cut him out of the loop? Does he have access to any data that could exonerate the Captain?'
"Keep him out of critical areas, such as what's left of the TIC, main engineering, and the computer core." Daxer replied simply. "Other than that, I'll handle Lieutenant Nakazato. Anything else?"
As she asked, silence descended upon the room, and for the first time, since returning, Daxer felt a sense of belonging. No one was rejecting her leadership. It was an odd feeling after having tried to assimilate the entire crew three years before.
"We all know what needs to be done to help Captain Aisaka, so let's not keep her waiting." Jen said. She tried to keep her emotions in check, but the bond of friendship she'd formed with Taiga made this personal, and it was easy to see she was determined in her resolve. "Dismissed."
