Hobbies & Interests | -Building and racing historic ground cars, but not just any old race will do: Shingo likes to run a dangerous handicap called a 'gum tape death match' where each driver's hand is taped to the wheel. -Collecting old fashioned projectile-based weapons such as pistols, shotguns, and the like. He is completely uninterested in modern phasers or their immediate particle-based predecessors, instead preferring the stuff that's capable of doing some 'real damage' -Fascinated by war, completely uninterested in his home planet's current pacifistic view. -Keeps a box of strong pornography, preferring the old ways of pleasuring one's self. - Plays instruments, notably drums, electric guitar, and bass, as he writes and records heavy metal and grunge rock music under the band name 'Shingo and the Kids of the Night'. Naturally, Shingo is on every instrument in the band, having fired more band members than he can count for 'not playing right' |
Personal History | Shingo was born and raised in Gunma, Japan, and was a childhood friend of Takeshi's future wife, Sayuki. He would graduate from high school in around the middle of his class and elected not to attend university. Instead preferring to tinker around on old school ground cars and work on his garage band project. Shingo would buy and fix up an old Honda Civic SiR-II EG6 and began taking it out on the old Myogi pass, which would be how he would come to meet Takeshi Nakazato, the so-called 'Black Lightning of Myogi'. When Takeshi had enough ground car enthusiasts under his wing and was considering making a team out of it, Shingo suggested modifying his band name ('Kids of the Night') to become the new team name ('NightKids') During his Tenure with the NightKids, Shingo and Takeshi were always at each other's throats, as his personality didn't mingle well with the other members, especially Takeshi. Shingo would run a far more dangerous style of race than Takeshi, called a 'gum tape death match'. A few members of the NightKids tried it out and promptly gave it up upon realizing that it was as stupid and dangerous as it sounded. Everything would come to a head after Shingo lost to an old Toyota AE86 on the old Haruna pass, crashing whilst running a 'gum tape death match' and breaking his right arm. After Shingo was discharged from the hospital that night, he decided that his reputation in the NightKids was irreparably damaged, and sold his EG6 for scrap before joining Starfleet. About halfway into his tenure at Starfleet Academy, in around 2387, Shingo took an unauthorized leave of absence when he got wind that a team calling themselves 'Emperor' was sweeping Gunma, and his former team, the NightKids, were next on their radar. Shingo showed up to the old Myogi pass in a rare move to lend support to Takeshi in his race against Emperor's mysterious ace 'Saibogu' During the race, Takeshi crashed and damn near lost his life. But Shingo wasn't worried upon hearing that he was still alive. Contemporary medical technology had advanced enough that they had healed his broken arm in a matter of minutes, so he imagined Takeshi would be kept at most overnight. After Takeshi's humiliating loss to Emperor, Shingo took it upon himself to alert his childhood friend and fellow street racer Sayuki about the credibility of Emperor, and brought Takeshi with him to testify about the team's toughness. Little did Shingo know that this small act would lead to Takeshi falling for Sayuki, despite warnings from Shingo about her being 'strong willed' When Shingo caught wind that an Emperor scouting party was heading up to the old Usui pass, Shingo and Takeshi beamed to Usui, only to find out that the race was already over. After spectating Emperor's reign of terror coming to an end, Shingo returned to Starfleet academy, where he was reprimanded for going AWOL. Upon graduation from Starfleet Academy, Shingo ran odd jobs for Starfleet, never really sticking in one place for too long. And for years, he was happy doing just that: That was, until Starfleet decided to give him a permanent assignment aboard the USS Tokyo in the ship's starfighter wing. The only problem was that the ship's new air boss was his old frenemy, Takeshi Nakazato, who had insisted he be appointed to deputy air boss so that an eye may be kept on him. |
