Mission:
Caught in the Cracks
Location: Ready Room
"Case closed people." Soren said loudly, slamming the table with a laugh before looking around the room. "Good job everyone. Mystery solved. Give yourselves a firm pat on the back. You all deserve it." He looked to T'Shenn and added. "Even you, Ratchet. Its okay to smile. You know what that is, right? It's the exactly opposite of what you are doing now, except your mouth curves the opposite way." He held his hand up a bit before putting it down. "Close enough. We'll work on that."
Still holding on to Alex, Alora turned to the Captain. "Ma'am, may I present Lieutenant Commander Alexander Knight? He and his team wish to join the Tokyo. Right now, I'd like to get them settled before we jump to warp." And she wanted time to find out what happened.
Alex stopped hugging Alora, but stood by her, while still holding onto her hand. "Captain." He nodded his head slightly. "We didn't have a better introduction the first time, but allow me to fill in the blanks. I run S.W.O.R.D. It stands for Special Weapons Operations & Recon Department. It was put together by an Admiral in Starfleet Intelligence. It was fairly new before the Niagara was recalled and the crew disbanded. You can check everything if you wish, its all recorded in the Federation's records. We may be from the other universe, but our loyalties are to Starfleet. Your XO can verify everything I am saying if you require it. Like she said, Captain, we formally request to join the crew and work under you and Starfleet."
To say that Taiga was a little surprised was a small understatement. She felt as if she had been backed into a corner with this decision. It was true that Alex and his team had helped a lot with the Tokyo's last predicament, but she was still unsure of what she could do with him.
She let out a sigh as she played it over in her mind. "For now Lieutenant... I will allow you to stay on the Tokyo. However, you must understand that I need to clear everything thats happened here with Starfleet Command" she explained.
"I understand this is sudden, and you have much to do before coming to a final decision, but I would like you to know that I respect your decision whatever it may be." Alex replied with a nod before adding. "In the meantime, I will touch base with my team." He looked to Alora and smiled before saying. "Since I am not needed, I'm gonna go back to the team. We'll walk about the ship and help out where we can."
"Alex and his team were members of the USS Niagara crew before they went back to the Terran Empire to rescue Lex Knight. I don't think you'll have a problem getting approval from Starfleet Command," Alora said. She wanted to go with Alex, but didn't think it would be prudent.
"For now" she looked over at Alora. "Commander Tau'ri will oversee and supervise you and your teams deployment on the ship. She's more qualified to deal with your people than I am since she knows you" she paused. "But that does not mean she can be biased towards you either, she is this ships first officer and one of her duties is crew assignments" she explained.
"I don't expect her to, Captain." He smirked slightly before adding. "And... should you decide you want to know me, or my team, all you have to do is ask. You're welcomed to stop by the Prowler..." Alex paused slightly before chuckling slight. "Which reminds me... You may need to send someone to Holodeck 3."
"Holodeck Three? Is that why the computer couldn't find you? Did you get Jazz?"
"Maybe." Alex replied softly. "When we started to phase, I guess, into the other universe Dutch did something to the shields. I can't begin to understand it, but he managed to trick whatever was pulling us over that way from here. When we began to phase in we appeared in Holodeck 3. Needless to say there was some damage, but not a lot, when we landed. By landed I mean crashed." He smiled before nodding. "Yeah, Jazz is okay. She's in a biobed on the Prowler."
Alora started to respond, but the Captain cut her off.
Taiga raised up a hand. "Wait, are you telling me that instead of where Holodeck three should be, instead your ship is now there?" she asked curiously. "And that we now have a ship lodged into the ships structure on deck three...." she paused then suddenly stood up rather annoyed. "And why the HELL did it have to happen to Holodeck Three! My favourite program was in that Holodecks Matrix!" she asked her voice slightly agitated
"Oh no, its still there. It's just my runabout is now in the middle of it for the time being." Alex replied before adding. "From what I understand, from my team member, we were leveled with the shuttlebay when we began to shift into the other universe. The ship itself was still in motion, but we were still, and when my team member did his trick with the shields we appeared back here. Except we appeared above out last position and fell down soon after. I am sure one of your crew members can explain the science behind it. I just took my team members work for it. Which I usually do because he tends to be right and asking him to explain normally leaves me with more questions and a throbbing headache." He placed his hands behind his back and quickly adding. "I am sure your program is safely stored in the data banks... just use a different Holodeck. I imagine they use the same system to work."
"God I hate all this Sciency stuff..." Taiga muttered simply as she sat down. "For now anyways..." she changed the subject quickly. "I suppose I should say welcome aboard the Tokyo" she stood up and offered a hand to Alex. "How about we do this first contact again? This time the right way and in the correct manner?" she asked as she held her hand out.
You should, Alora thought. Taiga was far too concerned about a holodeck program than the benefits she would gain by having Alex and his team. It would be nice to have another voice of reason around, too.
Alex smiled and took Taiga's hand. He gave her a good and firm grip before shaking her hand and pulling away. "Thank you, Captain. While we are here, crew or not, my team and equipment are at your disposal. I apologize for the holodeck, it was something out of our control."
Taiga nodded. "The holodeck can be repaired" she replied. "I can reprogram holodeck programs, but lives cannot be" she said with a slight smile.
She turned to the rest of the crew. "Well, we should focus on getting back to base. No doubt there is a list of repairs as long as I am tall..." she paused "Or perhaps longer than I am tall" she said with a slight smirk. "Is there anything else anyone wishes to bring up before I go ahead and sort through the mess of paperwork I have to do for all of this?" she asked.
Alex, unsure if he should be involved in this conversation, turned to Alora and whispered. "I'll see you after the meeting." He gave her a kiss on the cheek and turned to the door.
"Stay," she whispered back. "Maybe you and your team can help?"
"It's a senior staff meeting, Babe." Alex whispered, taking her hand in his before adding. "I don't want to step on her toes in regards to deciding whether she should keep us around or not. I'll help, don't doubt that, but I wont push her into deciding to keep me and the team around. As much as I would want to because you're here, it's her decision to make." He gave her a quick peck on the lips before whispering. "But feel free to keep convincing her how amazing you know I am. I'm sure it will help." He joked before hiding a soft laugh.
Alora smiled. He was right. She squeezed his hand. "Okay. I'll talk to you soon."
Sensing the emotions in the room made Taiga a little uneasy. "Ok then" she said. "Dismissed, you all have your assignments. I expect a ship wide departmental report in three hours" she said simply.
Good. Alora grabbed Alex' hand. "I'll come with you. We need to get the Prowler off the holodeck."
"I am sure many people would appreciate that." Alex replied with a smile. "Me included."
She grinned. "Definitely." She nodded to the Captain as she and Alex walked out of the room.
After everyone had left, Taiga sat back in her chair and stretched. They were a couple of days away from the nearest starbase. No doubt things would get interesting soon on the ship. She only hoped that with the upcoming crew rotations and transfer requests she would be able to piece together a decent crew again.
