1,340 words; about a 7 minute read
Mission:
Andromeda
Location: USS Tokyo
Previously on Star Trek Tokyo:
"A message? From whom?" Taiga asked.
"Its a written message, not video, or audio... however..." He checked once again to determine the authenticity. The Security code was legit. "Best I show you on screen." He tapped a few buttons.
Within seconds the screen went blank with a text that replaced the view. "Iconian infiltration imminent, offer no resistance, Tokyo's survival depends on it. Recall shuttle, any hostile action puts the entire milky way galaxy at risk. Commander Thomas Johnson, Authorization Johnson Alpha Bravo 9915486"
"Wait a moment..." Taiga said as she read the message. It only appeared for a few seconds allowing them to read it before it disappeared. "Verify that code. Start scanning for Iconian..." However she was cut off suddenly as the Tokyo shook.
The viewscreen now showed a strange ship, it looked like a spider but parts of it weren't attached. It loomed over the Tokyo and had the Federation Starship trapped in some sort of tractor beam. The lights and consoles began to flicker and fail as the Tokyo's power was being drained away...
And now the continuation...
"Ah, shit," Lieutenant Inoue cursed under her breath.
"Report!" Taiga called out. "What the hell is that ship doing to us?!"
"Im showing not only a power drain, but a systemic lockout." Carey replied as he went through the systems. "Rooms being locked out, requiring authorization codes, We have a lot of people stuck in their quarters, however lots still out and about captain. He looked to the Ensign. The only way they can lock us out is if they were locked out by someone familiar with the system Captain."
Talia, who had been sitting in her seat the whole time, turned to look at Taiga. “A lockout would require someone with Command access…” her look was one of emotional build-up given the possibilities. “Tom?”
Suddenly without warning, strange creatures that looked like they were made up of armour held together by flowing purple energy began to appear innrandom locations around the bridge. They seemed to 'poof' in with a whisp of black smoke as if appearing out of thin air. Each held a spear like weapon. Instantly they held the spears out and purple lightning like energy erupted from the ends.
One of the beams struck Ensign Hamilton at the Engineering station. The moment she was struck she began to slowly vaporise as if consumed by fire, letting out a ear splitting scream as she was slowly turned to nothing but air.
"ARM YOURSELVES!" Taiga shouted as she darted from her chair towards the helm that she could use for cover. She tapped her comm badge. "All hands, we're being boarded, repel..." but it was not use, her comm badge was dead, it didn't chirp, it just sat drained of power on her chest.
Lieutenant Inoue unholstered her phaser and attempted to shoot at the intruders, but upon discovering that that too was drained of power, she sighed, tossed her now-useless firearm aside, and dodge-rolled out of the way of an oncoming beam. Swinging out with her legs, she knocked one of the intruders off-balanced and caused it to momentarily loosen its grip on the spear. She then picked herself back up, grabbed the spear, and, locating the mechanism that appeared to act as some kind of trigger, directed the tip towards the intruder and squeezed it, hitting it point blank with a beam and causing it to disintegrate.
Talia wasn’t going to sit around, it wasn’t just herself she had to protect. She quickly moved out of her seat moving to where she could for cover.
There was another ear splitting scream as Crewman Davis was struck down near the Tactical console. He also seemed to dissolve slowly into the air as if on fire, his scream clearly expressing intense pain as he faded away into nothingness.
Talia cringed as the sheer level of pain that Davis had experienced broke through her barriers. It took a few moments before what Lieutenant Inoue had done crossed her mind she wasn’t going to let any harm come to her unborn baby, taking the chance she had she repeated Inoue’s move on another invader, surprising it she wrestled for the spear it was holding managing to get a hold long enough to use it against her opponent. “Let’s see how you like to fry!” Moments later the intruder was vaporised.
Liz had initially tried for the turbolift, intending to acquire the phaser rifles the marines had stored. However, when the turbolift didn't work, her struggling seemed to catch the attention of one of the intruders, who began to make its way towards her. Backed into a corner, and with more than just her life to protect, Liz's survival training kicked in, and like Talia and Lieutenant Inoue, Liz proceeded to knock the intruder off balance and disarm it, turning its weapon on its former user and disintegrating it.
It wasn't long before the surviving members of the bridge crew had started to catch on and began to rush the intruders, wresting them of their weapons and blasting away. Soon, the bridge had descended into an all-out fire-fight, with both sides fighting and falling with equal measure. The intruders were barely keeping up as it was, with replacements beaming in and just as quickly being dispatched. The playing field had been leveled, but as it stood the bridge crew was neither gaining nor losing ground.
Elsewhere on the Tokyo, terrified members of the Tokyo's crew had resorted to their only option. Run and hide. The corridors were filled with screams and wails as the Herald constructs vaporised any living being they came across.
The Constructs weapons not only vaporised the crew, but anything in their way. Doors, bulkheads, consoles, all could easily be removed from existance at the push of a button. The crew trapped in their quarters or behind doors were nothing but sitting ducks as the constructs began sweeping the decks, entering rooms and eliminating anyone who they found.
[Flight deck]
Screams echoed across the flight deck as the constructs destroyed the doors from the access corridors. People started to scramble and run away, many didn't make it. Several of the ships Valkyries stood on the deck, standing by ready for launch.
The moment the constructs burst through the doors Fubuki knew what she had to do. "Pilots! Get into those fighters! Light 'em up if you have to!" She shouted.
"Let's get a move on, people!" Nozomi barked as she frantically herded the pilots along. "Move, move, MOVE!!!"
"But Yoshika-!" Lynette attempted to protest.
"There's no time for that, Fraulein!" Hanna shouted as she grabbed Lynette by the collar and began dragging her towards a fighter parked nearby. "If we're going to get out of this alive, we have to go, NOW!"
[Elsewhere]
Tatsuo had taken charge down below as the ship started to go haywire on them. First by helping to get locked quarters and other doors open. For which he had to use quite a few command level overrides to accomplish. While the Tokyo was a lot more digitized than the Redemption, several basic systems were the same, and he was able to use the same tricks he used whenever something had malfunctioned on the old Nova class starship to get around it. Tatsuo knew he would likely get into trouble for breaking the chain of command in this way, but right now, he didn't care. People needed helping now, and there wasn't time for a command level officer to come along.
This became especially apparent when the shadowy constructs began appearing, making even his command level workarounds useless. With the situation becoming more and more dire by the minute, Tatsuo's survival instincts kicked in: Attack the enemy with intent to kill, especially as the enemy didn't seem to value their lives.
