Mission:
Behind Closed Doors
Location: Holodeck 1
Timeline: Before encountering the Borg
ON:
After the meeting where they'd all found out that they might encounter the Borg in their newest mission, Jen had started the tedious project of reviewing all personnel files, issuing firearms, and provide proper training for them. Among the records she reviewed, one had caught her interest. She had spent the last hour training one of her younger security officers in the use of a hand gun, and decided that she'd just have her quarry come to her, as she tapped her COMM Badge.
=/\= Daxer to Mimi, please report to Holodeck 1. =/\=
Mimi was a little surprised when her combadge beeped and the Xo's voice came over the channel =/\= I'm on my way Commander. =/\=
--- 5 minutes later--
Mimi waked into Holodeck 1. There was a gymnasium style program already running with various workout machines across 3 of the walls and a huge mirror and mat adorning the last wall. Another closed off area served as a shooting range. Through the bullet proof glass, an assortment of energy, and projectile weapons could be seen hanging on the wall. Stood nearby was the short Vulcan Lt Commander that had requested her presence.
"Commander." Mimi said gretting her.
"Good morning, Lieutenant." Jennifer said by way of greeting. "As I have been tasked with preparing all able bodied crew members for possible encounters with the Borg, I reviewed your service jacket. What I found was rather intriguing."
"Which parts?" Mimi asked although looking at the program that was running she had a fairly good idea which it was going to be.
"Combat training, or more specifically, your proper lack of it." Jen replied without missing a beat. "A fight with the Borg is a fight for your life, and the lives of everyone involved. Based on the notes in your service record, I need to ensure that you're capable of doing what is required, should you encounter them."
"Commander my species are for the most part a pacifist species. I will defend myself if there is no other choice but that is all." Mimi explained
"I understand this, but against the Borg, there is no other choice, Lieutenant." Jen replied simply. "You're here, because I need to be sure, and so I will not give you a choice either."
"You intend to attack me?" Mimi asked fairly bluntly, she hoped the answer was going to be no but she started to mentally prepare herself just incase and sowly moved towards the crash mats.
"I intend to prepare you." Jen said, as she followed Mimi towards the crash mats. "Since your record indicates you will not fight if there is a choice, then yes... Defend yourself!" With no further warning, Jen quickly stepped forward, putting herself within arms reach of Mimi, before lashing out with a straight punch, aimed at the shoulder.
Mimi easily evaded the punch nimbly dancing off to the side and well out of Jens range, she tucked her tail in close to her body so it was harder for someone to try and grab.
As Mimi more or less disappeared from the spot she had been standing before, Jen turned to face her again, her hands up in a fairly offensive stance. "During your training, you avoided retaliating in combat. Here and now, you dance away, still trying to avoid it." She said, observing the woman with all the calculating logic of a Vulcan. "If your ship mates lives are in danger, will you simply dance away from the fight, and let them die?" As she said it, she lunged towards Mimi again, this time she was quite a bit quicker than she'd just been, closing the distance between them in record time as she lashed out with a punch, kick combination.
Instead of evading the combination Mimi blocked the attack, her hands moving like a blur as she deflected Jens arm off to the side and slamming her palm into Jens leg stopping the momentum of the kick. "I am more than capable of defending myself if the need arises."
The sudden stopping deflection caught Jen off guard, but she was still able to keep her feet. "Yourself perhaps..." She said, evenly. Now as Mimi looked upon her, it was easy to see that unlike typical Vulcans, Jen actually allowed some of her emotions to show. "What about others?" Still standing in front of Mimi, she brought both her hands up, sending them forward in a double punch that was aimed at knocking the wind out of the woman.
It was clear now that Jen wasn't going to let her off without proving she could do more than just block and evade so Mimi took things up a notch, evading the first punch by stepping to the side she grabbed Jens arm and with a hiss threw the petite Vulcan over and onto her back on the mat before calmly stepping off to the side.
Jen didn't lay there long. More on instinct than anything, she kipped up onto her feet, then turned to face Mimi. "You have skill. Of this I have no doubt, but as a Starfleet officer, you must be prepared to use those skills to protect yourself, and the innocent." Jen explained. Though her emotions were in check, it was easy to see that they were there on the surface. "You can never truly know how an enemy will react, or what actions they may take. You must always be prepared." The moment she stopped speaking, Jen flicked her arm hard to produce, and throw a bladed weapon, seemingly from nowhere. Flying through the distance between them, Jen knew that Mimi would not be injured if the blade hit it's mark, but she also knew this was the most likely way to get the woman to truly react.
Mimi saw the knife flying through the air towards her, she assumed that the holodecks safeties were on and that nothing would happen if she got hit by it but chose to avoid it anyway, jinking to the side the knife sailed past her landing with a slight thump on the mat a few metres behind her.
Jen sighed, shaking her head as Mimi simply side stepped to avoid the blade. "You are persistant it seems." She said simply. "Computer, lock the door, and disengage the holodeck safety protocols, authorization Daxer alpha delta 24."
A warning tone sounded, and the computer's voice could be heard. "Warning! Holodeck safety protocols have been disengaged."
"Defend yourself!" Jen ordered, and she flicked her arm again, sending yet another identical bladed weapon hurdling towards Mimi, knowing that this time the blade would deal heavy damage if it landed.
Mimi was a little surprised that Jen had decided to disengage the holodeck safeties but still managed to avoid the second knife she threw at her, she didn't know exactly what Jen had in mind but she guessed that things were going to get a little more violent.
As the blade flew through the air, Jen sent a second one right next to it in one place Mimi could side step, then sprinted to the other side where Mimi actually decided to side step. As she got close, she launched a Tai-Kwon-Do style flying kick at Mimi, intending to force the woman to fight back.
For such a petite woman Jen moved extremely fast and even with Mimi's extremely quick reactions she only just managed to get her hands in a position to deflect the momentum of the kick but it still knocked her back several steps and sent a slight stab of pain down her arms.
Jen disliked the idea of what she was doing, but knew that in the situation at hand, it was needed to know what Mimi was capable of. As she landed from the deflected kick, she quickly stepped closer, starting a flurry of punches, looking to do only a small amount of damage, preferably no more than a few small cuts, and bruises.
Mimi's hands moved like a blur deflecting and blocking the punches Jen threw at her, the woman had good stamina and was able to keep the flurry of strikes going until one finally slipped through Mimi's vigorous defense and catching her fairly heavily on the jaw, the blow threw Mimi off balance a little and another one made it through this time catching her on the chest. Dropping low she managed to avoid the next punch and quickly danced out of Jens range so she could try and regain her composure.
As Mimi ducked away, Jen relaxed to an at-ease stance, studying the woman. "Your reflexes appear to be quite good, Lieutenant." She said simply. "Though you still have yet to strike back... If we are to go against the Borg, you will not have the luxury of simply ducking out of the way. You will be required to kill Borg drones, or face assimilation."
Mimi relaxed slightly and flexed her jaw she was wary of Jen potentially coming at her again as she was intent on making her strike back. "I guess you leave me with no other option." She finally spoke after saying almost nothing since the fight began, dropping low into a defensive stance Mimi waited for Jens next attack.
A moment later, Jen quickly stepped forward, lowering her stance to more closely match Mimi's. Her hands came up in a defensive fashion as her front foot lashed out, intending to take the woman off her feet.
Using her own foot to block the sweep Mimi slipped inside Jens guard and with a hiss slammed her right palm into the womans chest driving the wind out of her before grabbing Jens arm with her other arm.
The stun was only momentary, but it was enough for Mimi to grab hold. Seeing only a few option, Jen chose the one that presented itself in that moment as she grabbed the woman's tail with her free hand, and yanked on it, not only causing her to lose her grip on Jen's arm, but also using her tail to throw her several feet away, giving her time to regain her breath.
Maybe a little too caught up in the moment of using a technique she'd never had to use since the the academy Mimi suddenly found herself being flung away from Jen by her tail, the pain was enough to make her wince a little
Mimi hissed loudly "Do NOT yank my tail." She told Jen, the agression in her voice was obvious.
Having finally seen some aggression from Mimi, Jen's hands were up in a defensive posture. "You must be prepared for all eventualities, Lieutenant." She explained. "If you do not want me to make use of your weaknesses, then you must learn to protect them better. Someone who sees you as an enemy will not hesitate to exploit your weaknesses the moment the chance arises."
"I cannot protect my tail any better than how it is now." Mimi said reining in her aggression.
Jen sighed and lowered her hands back to her sides before approaching the woman with her hand held out to offer a handshake... a gesture that was extremely uncommon for Vulcans. "Your skill, and techniques are admirable." She said simply. "I hope that if the time comes, you will be able to effectively use them to your advantage. The Borg are not to be trifled with, and should you encounter them during this mission, you are to eliminate them with extreme prejudice."
Rising from her defensive posture Mimi cautiously shook Jen's hand still a little wary incase the Vulcan tried anything. "Thank you Commander, I will do what I can if the need arises." She said. She was breathing somewhat heavily now her species' incredible althetic and acrobatic abilities came at the expense of stamina.
Jen gave the woman a firm handshake, before letting go to look at her. "I hope it is enough, Lieutenant." She replied simply. "I, for one, sincerely hope it doesn't come to that."
"Me too. Will there be anything else commander?" Mimi asked after they ended the handshake.
"No Lieutenant." Jen said simply. "You are dismissed." While Jen was still unsure of Mimi's ability to take a life, if the situation called for it, she had others that needed training, and there was not a lot of time to train them.
"Good day Commander." Mimi said before she turned to leave the holodeck.
