Mission:
Descent
Location: Gamma Zednor Station - Habitat Areas
The station was a mess, many of the emergency systems had been either destroyed or were offline. The beam in point was inside the main habitat module, the large open public area was classed as an emergency shelter zone. Many of the cadets there were injured, some more than any.
One young cadet, Cadet Junior Grade Tomoka Minato stood out from the rest of them. She wore medical teal cadet uniform and seemed to be the only one rushing around performing first aid on others. Her bright pink hair could be seen moving between person to person as she attempted some form of triage alone.
Amari's blue skin goosebumped as she materialised onto the station, she'd kept it quiet but it was her first time getting transported and she wasn't quite sure how her implants would react to it. A quick check showed all of them to be functional which was certainly more than could be said for the station. She fired up her computer implant and set it to scan the area. "Life support appears to be online but the air quality is relatively low." She announced.
"Oh my god!" Yoshika exclaimed as she immediately clicked open her med kit. She rushed over to the nearest injured person, a junior cadet about the age of twenty. He was seriously hurt. She didn't even hesitate to start triage Protocols nor did she wait for orders, people were hurt and Yoshikas instincts kicked in.
Trennek asked Amari, "How long would you expect life support here to be functional?"
"If the quality keeps going down at its current rate maybe a couple of hours before it starts to become dangerous." Amari replied after a few moments tapping at her implants holo display. "Might be able to do something about it if I can find where life support is routed from."
“We don’t have a lot of time then,” Trennek stepped up to a console embedded in the wall and began tapping delicately with his large fingers. He searched the station’s plans looking for an access point Amari could use. He studied the display a moment. “It looks like there’s an access point down that corridor.” He pointed to one cadets were streaming from. “Need help?” He asked Amari.
Amari looked down the corridor Trennek pointed to, a continuous stream of cadets coming down it. Her small frame would get nowhere going against the tide but a nearly 7 foot man of rock certainly would. "Lead the way, I'll be right behind you."
Trennek nodded. He was used to taking the point on such excursions because of his size. His job was to keep his crew mates safe after all. “It’s about forty meters down this way,” he mentioned as he started down the corridor staying to one side to the exiting cadets could get around him.
Staying close to Trennek Amari followed him down the corridor, the cadets being very quick to get out of the way of the giant Lieutenant. Soon they reached the access point he'd found. "Lets see what you can tell me." She said as she pulled the access panel off the wall.
Trennek stayed to one side to deflect the fleeing cadets to give Amari the room she needed to work. “I know enough about engineering to stay out of trouble. If I can aid in some way, let me know.”
"Just keep the Cadets from crashing into me." Amari remarked.
"Not a problem," he replied while only using one arm to funnel fleeing cadets around Amari so they wouldn't be in her way.
"No, this way!" Chiyo yelled as she had found herself on directing the fleeing cadets in the direction of the intact shuttlebays.
Yoshika had moved around a couple of patients eventually bumping into the young pink haired cadet. She couldn't help but smile, as the young girl reminded her of doctor Hinamori.
"Hello cadet" Yoshika said. "Are you a medical officer?"
"In training yes. I'm Tomoka Minato." She replied.
"Yoshika Miyafuji. I'm very sorry, but we're going to need you a lot over the next few hours. Will you assist me?" Yoshika asked simply yet softly. Tomoka nodded.
"Thankyou, now give me a status report on what you've already done..."
"Go, go, go! Chiyo yelled, motioning for the cadets to keep moving.
A cadet bumped into Chiyo, and she caught a glimpse of a green uniform as she steadied herself. By instinct, Chiyo reached out a grabbed the cadet.
"Slow down there, Cadet:" Chiyo said. "And watch where you're going."
"Sorry, ma'am." The cadet bowed apologetically.
"Say, Cadet; if you can, we could use your assistance." Chiyo said. "Perhaps help us find any friends you have that might be trapped?"
"Um... Sure." The cadet responded.
"Excellent, what's your name, Cadet?" Chiyo asked.
"Kyoko Iwase, ma'am." The Cadet introduced herself.
"Good to meet you, Iwase; I'm Chiyo Shimada." Chiyo replied, extending a hand. "Welcome to the team."
Suddenly all their comm badges chirped. "Captain Aisaka to all away teams. We're sending over evacuation shuttles now. Start to move evacuees to the intact shuttlebays. Any critically injure contact Transporter control for immediate beam out" Taiga's voice called.
"You heard the woman." Chiyo said to the marines with her. "Get the evacuees to the intact shuttlebays, but remember my orders in case this evacuation effort by shuttles begins to take too long."
A small collection of shuttles launched from the Tokyo approached the station. The evacuation shuttles was being led by the Delta Flyer Type Runabout, 'Shinjuku' piloted by Ensign Mikko Ishigami. "Tokyo away teams this is the lead evacuation shuttle Shinjuku. We'll be touching down momentarily with additional medical and security personnel. Clear the shuttlebays" Mikko called out on a wide Hail.
"Shinjuku to Tokyo, on final approach," she reported.
Lieutenant Jasad Yuvek stared at the data before him on his console and took a deep breathe as he tried to process it all. Thousands of terrified and possible injured cadets would be difficult objective. But you take those same casulaties, those same terrified cadets, and then you destroy or cripple 2/3 of available shuttlebays and you have unmitigated chaos.
"Tokyo to Shinjuku" Lt. Yuvek said as he tried to formulate a plan. "You are going to have a tight fit, only 3 shuttles can fit per bay. You need to make it clear that they cannot bring any equipment with them. We're going to need to cram as many bodies into the shuttles as possible as quickly as we can." The Helmsman said.
"Aye sir. We'll cram as many in as we can," Mikko replied as the Shinjuku began to start the docking sequence.
"Do we have any estimate on how many shuttles will need to used for medical evacs?" He asked.
"Not at the moment. But I think anything we can spare," Mikko replied as she guided the Shinjuku into the shuttlebay. She was shocked to see that some of the Tokyo's rescue teams had already moved some of the injured cadets into the shuttlebays. "Sir, this will take multiple trips. I just saw how many people I have waiting for us here..."
Slowly one by one the shuttles began to touch down on the deck. Their hatches were quickly opened and injured were being loaded. Some of them were brought aboard in stretchers, other sat into the bench seats and even on the floor of the shuttles's rear compartments.
[USS Tokyo Bridge]
Taiga had been monitoring the situation with the evacuation. She frowned as she realised that they may run out of time with the station's orbit decaying. "How long until the station's orbit is too low to save it?" Taiga asked.
One of the Science Officers who had been filling in looked over to the Captain. "Two hours, forty minutes Captain," he reported simply.
"Damn..." Taiga muttered under her breath. She sat forward in her chair holding her face in her hands. There was no way that the Tokyo could evacuate the entire station compliment in that time, even with transporters and shuttles.
Finally she tapped the control panel on her chair arm. "Captain Aisaka to Away Teams. We are estimating two hours forty minutes until the Station loses orbit..." she couldn't believe she was about to give this order, she felt sick as she watched the station on the screen "...Save as many as you can in that time. If you can't get them out then..." she paused "...they knew the risk of the uniform. You make that call." she cut off the channel.
A quiet lull filled the bridge after the Captain gave the order. Lt. Yuvek was not surprised. he expected such a command to eventually come during a crisis like this. Not every cadet was going to make it off of that station alive. Now it was just a matter of how many could be saved and just how the away team would determine who stayed and who lived.
