Mission:
Andromeda
Location: USS Tokyo (NCC-91101)- Sickbay
Timeline: Approximately 1 hour after "Assembling The Team!"
Amu Hinamori stirred from her deep sleep, slowly starting to wake from the anesthetic.
Sickbay had quieted down considerably since Amu was first admitted, now that the critical patients had been addressed and the doctors were now focused on attending to injuries of lessening concern.
From across the ward, one of the nurses happened to spot Amu as she began to stir.
"Ah, Doctor!" she called out, making her way over to Amu's bed. "How are you feeling? Did you manage to sleep alright?"
Amu opened her eyes slowly. Her hands instantly darted to her midsection. She let out a sigh of relief to find that she was still indeed pregnant, she was referred further from a kick within. "I'm good, I think?"
"I'm glad to hear that," the nurse smiled as she furnished a medical tricorder and began to calibrate it. "Since you were admitted yesterday, have you observed any abnormalities with your pregnancy? Pain, discomfort, changes in fetal movement, headaches, nausea, anything of that caliber?"
With a stare of 'seriously' Amu replied to the nurse. "Erm, well I just woke up... So at the moment no, obviously."
The nurse chuckled. "That's completely understandable; we're obligated to ask in the unlikelihood that you may have experienced any of the symptoms either during or awakening from your sleep. Now, if you'll hold still for just a second..."
Amu watched as the nurse ran the tricorder over her stomach, and then pulled it back to look at the readings.
"Well, it looks as if your son's vital signs have fully stabilized," she reported. "We're not detecting any signs of the carbon-based compound that we found in his bloodstream when you were initially admitted, so it looks to have fully dissipated into the fetal circulation."
She glanced. "We did take the liberty of extracting some samples for further analysis by Sciences, but we took extra precautions so as not to cause any further distress to the fetus."
Amu nodded. She ran her hands over her bump protectively. "Thanks. I'm just a little bummed out that the Elachi revealed the sex of the baby before it was born. I wanted it to be a surprise."
The nurse smiled. "Well, look on the bright side; he's alive, and a minor disappointment such as this will ultimately pale in comparison in the years of joy and laughter you'll spend bringing him up."
She winked. "And I'd know, because I've reared three boys myself."
"Oh? I didn't know that." Amu said with a smile.
"Anyways, because we're still in the process of studying that compound and the possible side-effects it could have on your son's development, we've made the decision to take you off of active duty and confine you to sickbay, at least so we can monitor you for any potential abnormalities that may arise during your gestation," the nurse explained. "We're only looking at keeping you here for a month, but due to the length of time, we felt we should at least inform your boyfriend of the situation; he's in the waiting room right now, if you're feeling well enough to see him."
"A month?!" Amu exclaimed. "Oh come on, you know that I'll just get in the way. Just hook up a portable monitor on me or something..."
The nurse chuckled. "Doctor, I promise if that if we thought you were going to be a liability, we would've already sent you on your way. I understand that you're eager to get back to work at the first available opportunity- and trust me, you're not the first patient I've confided with who feels that way- but right now there's a lot of uncertainties with what exactly was injected into your son and how it could effect his growth. Sure, his vital signs are healthy right now, but depending on the dosage he received? We could be looking at anything ranging from cleft lips, low birth weights, smaller head circumferences, low blood sugar levels, and even impaired neutrophil and T cell responses. Now, this is by no means to scare you or anything, but as a precautionary measure, we feel it would be best to see your son developing in real time, just to make sure he hits all the major milestones when he's supposed to."
"I know all that," Amu said softly. "But if I spend a month in here, then I'm going to end up doing something. You'll find me cleaning out hyposprays... Trust me, I get bored easily..."
"Well, if the Doctors here allow it, we'll provide you with some light activities to keep you occupied," the Nurse nodded. "However, you're still off of active duty for the next four weeks; if Captain Aisaka finds out that you went against the doctor's orders and were working when you weren't supposed to, she'll likely chew you out for it."
She grinned. "God, that brings back memories; I made that mistake when I was pregnant with my first son and got bumped down to JG... sufficed to say, I never made that mistake again with the other two kids."
Amu huffed and pouted. "Fine. But at least give me something to do! I'm not spending a month sat in here, that's like torture..." her eyes narrowed. 'Say... I'll make you a deal. I'll stay here for five days, if nothing changes I get to go home. At least then I can be comfortable and it's not good keeping me away from my partner right? We need to consider his needs too..."
"As a matter of fact, he's still out in the waiting room, if you'd like to speak with him," the nurse smiled. "And from what I hear, he hasn't heard anything yet about the gender of his child, so..." she winked again. "...perhaps you might get to reveal it to someone after all?"
"It wouldn't be the same." Amu sighed. "I'll tell him once everything has calmed down." She told her softly. "No doubt he's wearing out the carpet huh?"
"Oh, he is indeed," the nurse chuckled. "Shall I go and fetch him before he accidentally commits property damage?"
Amu chuckled to herself. "Sure. If he's allowed to see me." She couldn't help but smirk, it was nice to hear he had been too worried to even sit still. But that was Ikuto, under that hard exterior was a cute sift pussy cat thar just wanted petting between the ears. Amu ran a hand over her belly. "I bet you're going to come out looking like him aren't you..."
"If he weren't, I wouldn't be asking," the nurse assured her. "Okay, I'll be right back..."
she ducked out for just a few minutes before the sound of footsteps could be heard approaching her room.
"...Right through here, Mister Tsukiyomi," she could hear the nurse saying.
The tall slender man that was Ikuyo Tsukiyomi walked in, his head held high as usual. Upon spotting Amu his confident walk turned into hasty strides as he approached her at speed.
He didn't even allow her to speak before he rushed at her, grabbed her and pulled her into a tight hug.
Amu's eyes opened wide. "Easy there... like seriously..." Ikuto still continued to embrace her. "Ikuto... too tight..." he could feel his heart pounding in his chest, he must really have been worried. "Seriously bowm Get Off!"
Ikuto finally released her. "Sorry."
Amu smiled as she took his hand. "It's OK. I know you were worried." She told him softly. "We're both fine. Me and our..."she looked up at the nurse. This was a good as time as ever. "Me and our Son."
Ikuto beamed with pride as he held her hand tightly. Small tears formed in the edges of his eyes as he smiled. "Good."
