Mission:
Preserving The Past
Location: Briefing Room & Counselors office
With the ship underway at impulse power and repairs now we'll underway, Taiga, The Johnsons and Daxer had moved into the briefing room. There was one last thing they needed to sort out. Luckily they had all arrived and were already seated.
"So..." Taiga said breaking the silence. "We need to discuss what we're doing with Tahuna. We can't send her back to her home as Amerind is no longer capable of supporting life." She looked around them. "I have yet to report her being aboard to Starfleet Command. I would rather we come up with a plan for her ourselves than let them make that decision."
“To be honest Captain I’d love for Tahuna to stay, but I’m not sure if it’s just my mothering instincts kicking in.” Talia paused. “Admittedly it would give her more of a chance of finding another civilisation at a similar point in development as her own, but it would also expose her more to our level of technology. I don’t know if that’s good for her.”
"We are her new home, its the only thing she knows other than what she lost. Shes close to very few people, she should be with those she feels comfort with in this time." Thomas replied as he looked to the officers, noting that some aspects of his life would have to be... adjusted if she chose to stay with them.
Taiga scratched her head, this was going to be a tricky decision to make. "She seems to be rather attached to Talia. However, I understand that both of you are due your honeymoon as I promised..." she let out a sigh.
"Take your honeymoon." Jen said simply. "I can take on the task of caring for her while you do. Who knows? Maybe it will be good for me in the long run."
There was a moment of silence as Taiga stared in disbelievement at Jen. "Well, I'm surprised Jen. I didn't think you'd..." she shook her head quickly.
Thomas turned to Talia, "What do you think? We would need an extra bedroom, buy new stuff. And learn new culture?"
"Are you sure Tom?" Taiga asked, dropping the ranks for a moment. "You've already got a little one on the way as it is? I know that Tahuna has attached herself to Talia whilst she's been here. I wouldn't want you to have more pressure, she doesn't even know about her world being destroyed yet."
Talia looked at her husband in surprise. “I wasn't expecting you to say that, especially with us already expecting.” She smiled warmly as she turned to Taiga. “If Tom is happy with it then so am I, and she has Jennifer as well.” She looked back at Thomas. “We’d definitely need an extra bedroom, and to take Tahuna to buy some clothes and things.”
Taiga nodded. "Once we get back to Starbase 234, we've got plenty of repairs to make. Once you're back from the honeymoon I'm sure we can arrange a shopping trip." She stated. "In the meantime, use the replicators for any of her needs. I also biebe that the storage room next to your quarters can be converted and opened through to add an additional bedroom. You'd have to clear that with Ops and Engineering." She paused for a moment. "If you decide to take in Tahuna, it's not going to be easy. Are you both one hundred percent sure you want the additional responsibility?"
Talia looked towards Thomas then back at Taiga. “I’m sure. I’ve gotten quite attached to her while she’s been here. I think she’ll make a very good older sister.”
"I'm sure she will. Now, the big question. We need to tell her about her world. I think I should be the one to do it. Unless you believe it may be better for you to do so?" Taiga asked Talia.
Talia shook her head. “I don’t think I want to, but I would like to be there with Tahuna when you tell her.”
"I think we all should. Where is she now?" Taiga asked.
“In my office, I gave her something to eat and left her with some entertainment while I came here.” Talia added.
"I see." Taiga said. "Well then, lets relocate there. Its time we told her, best to get it out of the way now whilst we have the chance to do so." She pushed herself up from her chair coming to a stand.
Talia moved to do the same, feeling the strain on her back as she got up. “What a state of affairs, I feel like a space whale” she offered a brief smile given the situation they were about to face.
"I know how you feel." Taiga replied with a smile.
[Counsellors Office]
Tahuna sat on the chair opposite the adults, a look of confusion on her face. Taiga had just told her that her home and that everything she ever knew was gone.
"The other beings from the stars have taken my home away?" She asked.
Taiga nodded. "Yes. But you are safe with us. Talia has said that you can live with them. If you want to?"
Tahuna looked over at Talia. "You will allow me to stay on your sky-boat?" She asked. "And travel the heavens now my people have made their way to the afterlife?"
Talia nodded offering a smile. “If that’s what you want, it'll give you a chance to learn all about us and be a part of our lives too. We are willing to make you part of our family.”
The young girl's eyes began to leak tears. "I am a village child. Both my mother and father walk in the afterlife now." She explained through her tears. "I wish to stay with you. I am happy you will let me become family."
Taiga watched as Tahuna began to cry. She seemed far more mature fir her age than usual. It was likely due to having no parents for such a long time, now at least, she had someone that would care, comfort and love her. Slowly she stood up.
"I'll let you have a moment alone." Taiga said to Talia and Thomas. She looked at Jen as she left, no doubt that Jen would want to stay too. At least now Taiga was satisfied with the future plans for Tahuna.
