Mission: The Nursery
Location: Captains ready room

Thomas had presented a list of candidates for the assistant chief security officer onboard the Tokyo. With Daxer not being an official member of the crew, at least not yet, and as she stated in their meeting previously, was just manning tactical. He thought it best that he come up with a candidate all things considered.

"His name is Lt jg Connor Carey. He just got out of the academy a little over two years ago, but he has shown promise. He knows rules, regulation, and is driven. Kind of expected, when you consider who his father is." Thomas replied, looking over the padd himself. "The Routeledge, the captain has placed a good deal of commendations in his file. As well as their new chief security... well... the one who replaced me." He paused as he turned. "With Lt Shimada needing to reeducate to the updated protocols, even if temporary, was wondering what would your opinion about giving the Lt a shot. It may not be the best time to learn. But based on my experience and the discussion I have had with his previous chief, I think hes up for the task."

Taiga pondered on the Commander's suggestion. She tapped on her desk computer interface and brought up the Lieutenants record. She skimmed it over briefly. "Why not get him up here and we'll do an interview?" she suggested.

"Commander Johnson to Lt Carey, can you come up to the Captains ready room please." Thomas stated tapping his badge.

There was a moment of silence before he returned. "Be right up Commander. Just have to place these crates of rifles back into storage first."

When the com went down, "My original thought was Lt Shimada, he has the experience. However I wasn't completely sure if he would accept the position, so soon after the ordeal on the planet."

"Plus, Lieutenant Shimada still needs to be fully retrained on modern weapons systems and security protocols. The Starfleet he once knew is different now," Taiga replied as she nodded in agreement.

Within a moment, the door chimed, indicating someone on the other side. Thomas looked over, "Enter Lt."

Connor walked in, looked at both the Commander, and the Captain. "Am I in trouble sir? Captain?" He asked as he stood to attention. This being his first call to the ready room, he was unsure what to expect.

"Negative, Lt. The Captain and I have a few... questions regarding your position here onboard the Tokyo." Thomas replied looking over to the Captain.

"Take a seat Lieutenant, would you like something to drink?" Taiga asked as she indicated to the chair on the opposite side of the desk.

"I'm fine thanks." Connor replied as he took the seat, still unsure about the whole deal with this.

"Wrong answer," Taiga said simply with a slight scowl. She looked over at Thomas. "Commander, would you mind replicating some tea? I wouldn't mind a nice warm cup."

"Teas fine as well Commander." Connor replied shifting in his seat.

Smirking, Thomas walked over to the replicator, replicating three teas for them, brought two over, set them down on the table, and then got his own.

Looking at the hot beverage set before him, "My mother is a tea drinker, father not so much." He took a drink. Turning to Commander Johnson, he was confident, but nerves were starting to set in. "Congratulations Commander... I have known Lt Johnson since we were kids running around in school on Earth."

Intrigued. "Oh?"

"She is cousins to my mother. We grew up together." Connor replied as he turned back to the Captain. "Sorry I got off track Captain."

"So you share a family relation. Thats a little slice of home for you here on the Tokyo." Taiga said in response. "So, lets get down to business. We're looking for someone to take up the position of Assistant Chief of Security and Tactical. Since we were rushed out of dock, we didn't have time to replace some of the crew we lost."

"News to me." Thomas agreed about the relation. "Knowing your abilities from the routeledge I am confidant about your abilities, as does your former CO and chief."

"I do have one question, has my father influenced this at all. All do respect Captain and Commander, appreciate your vote of confidence, but I want to go on my merit not that of my father." Connor replied

"Am I supposed to know who your father is?" Taiga asked simply. "Contrary to popular belief, not all Starfleet Captains know each other. Yes, there are some well known names out there. Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Sisko etc. But, I don't know every single one out there lieutenant. So, my answer would be no. This has nothing to do with any family ties you may have. I rate my crew on their performance and their skills."

"Well, he isn't a Captain, he is actual Admiral Xavier Carey, head of starfleet seurity for the past ten years." Connor replied looking over to Johnson. "You know him. He paid a visit on the routledge, asking about what I need to improve on in order to advance. My third week on the ship."

"I can assure you, there is no peeps about it from your father. In fact I haven't spoken to him since that time."

Taiga sat back in her chair slightly as she took a sip of her drink. "So then Lieutenant. Do you think you're up for that promotion?" she asked simply.

"Either way Captain... Commander, you will have nothing but my best." Connor replied

The captain took a sip of her drink before placing it down on the desk in front of her. "I know that already. But my question is, can you step up to help assist the Security and Tactical department? I do not intend to put you in a position you do not feel like you can succeed in."

"I also do not intend to accept a position that I would not excel in Captain. The answer is Yes... I dont feel I can succeed in the position, but I know I can."

"That settles it then." Taiga said. "The moment you leave this office, you'll be the next Assistant Chief of Security and Tactical." she looked over at Thomas. "I'm sure you can sort out all the personnel side of things?"

"My office is my next stop, he will be given correct codes for his position." Thomas replied, as he looked over to the Lt. "Congratulations Lt."

"Thank you Commander... and Thank you Captain." Connor replied standing at attention.

Taiga nodded. "Dismissed," she said simply.
