Phyllis was sitting in the TIC with nothing to do but be there in case of trouble. Trigman had been called in as a witness, so that left her to man the comms. A game of Solitaire with real cards was spread out on the desk in front of her while Glenn Miller played over the speakers.
The sharp hiss of doors sliding open sounded just off to the side, signalling the arrival of another officer.
"No way," came a familiar gasp. "Teach, is that you?!"
"Yes, Miss Kusuda, way." Phyllis set down a card and turned, smiling. "It is me."
"Teach!" The newcomer squealed as she ran up and smothered poor Phyllis in a bear hug. "Oh, this is fantastic! My first deployment, and both Sorenchi and my favoritest teacher in the whole wide galaxy are serving aboard the same ship?! Oooo~! I don't think I've felt this giddy since I enrolled at the Academy!"
Phyllis hugged her back. "I'm not your teacher anymore. Or, more correctly, your professor. I'm just Sorceress." She laughed. "Although The Professor could be a good call sign." She laughed again. "I think I'll stick to Sorcerss. Suits me better."
"Goodness gracious, it's almost like six years hasn't passed at all," Nozomi sighed as she slowly broke the hug. "It feels like I'm 29 again and the galaxy's my oyster."
"Why not?" Phyllis asked. "You're still young. I've got 500 years on you, and I still look for new opportunities. That's why I'm here. It's something new, and I get to work with an old friend."
"That you do," Nozomi agreed with a wink. "I dunno; you can chalk it up to the fact that I don't have the perspective of age on my side, but it feels like it's been a long time coming for me."
The older pilot nodded. "It always does for the young." It was true, but the other pilot wouldn't really understand for a few decades yet. "I'm still a stickler for rules--unless they need to be broken." She'd broken a few in her time, but always for the right reason.
"Don't think I haven't forgotten," Nozomi chuckled.
"Good." Phyllis smiled again. "Then I look forward to seeing what you've learned over the past six years."
"Well, I did learn from the best," Nozomi remarked, nodding in Phyllis's direction. "Awaiting duty assignments, Sorceress."
""Trigger's got you under him so he can see you fly, then he'll shuffle everyone around after the next training session. After that battle with the Elachi, we had some...problems. Always happens when you're breaking in a new group." She wasn't going to mention names, or problems, but that reminded her that she needed to check on some remedial training and make sure it got done to her satisfaction.
"Got it," Nozomi replied. "You wouldn't happen to know where Lieutenant Commander Trigman is so that I can report to him?"
"Nope. He's on down time. I hope he's relaxing." Phyllis shrugged. "You can try his combadge, or wait for him to come back on duty. I doubt he'll make any reassignments until then. Take some time to meet the other pilots. We'll be busy enough before long."
"Will do," Nozomi nodded before spinning around on her heel and making her way to the door.
"Oh, and before I forget..."
Phyllis raised an eyebrow, curious to hear what the other officer had to say. "Yes?"
"I just wanted to say what a pleasure it is to be working with you and Sorenchi again," Nozomi smiled. "I can rest assured that I'm in good hands."
"I look forward to seeing what you've learned." Phyllis grinned. "And to how you fly with the other pilots."
"I think they'll be presently surprised," Nozomi chuckled before excusing herself from the room.
"Good!" Phyllis laughed. It would be nice to see another competent pilot on the Tokyo. She went back to her game of cards as "In the Mood" began to play over the speakers.
