Mission: The Nursery
Location: 'Breeding Room' - Elachi Nursery
Timeline: Concurrent with "Starting A War From Within" and "An Escape From Madness"

Previously on Star Trek Tokyo:

"Captain Nakamura and I were held on this level. Down there.. " Syaro said pointing down the center of the room at the pods on the lower level. "I think the newer arrivals are kept on the lower levels abd they move you up the longer you've been here." She explained.

And now the continuation...

Heeding Syaro's advice, the away team moved deeper into the chamber, all the while keeping an eye on their exit routes in case the Elachi decided to come back early.

"Dear god... Chiyo muttered as they made their way through the room, her brain unable to process the horrors that lay before the away team.

"Think I found something!" Takina called out from just up ahead.

In the pod was a woman, dressed in Red starfleet uniform. Her stomach was bulged out and rounded, visible movement could be seen inside it.

Syaro walked over to the pod and peered inside. "I hate to burst your bubble..." she said. "But thats not Captain Nakamura..." she stated. "Thats someone else. But still a Starfleet Officer..."

"Regardless, we still have orders to rescue as many of them as we can," Chisato pointed out.

"But what about that..." Mizuki gulped as she struggled to hold back her vomit. "...thing moving inside of her?"

"Baby Elachi..." Syaro said. "They move around a lot inside you. Then once they're ready they... well..." she hesitated for a moment. "You're only awake for the birth. The Elachi just watch as you deliver them..." she stated to them all. She held a hand on her own stomach. "It hurts..."

"Oh, God, that doesn't make that any less revolting..." Mizuki groaned. "Anyone here seen a garbage disposal unit? I think I'm gonna puke..."

"Not into your respirator, Mizuki-Chan!" Chisato warned.

"You're not helping!" Mizuki grumbled as she stumbled off to look for somewhere that she could lose her lunch with relative dignity.

"I don't think releasing her is the best idea right now." Syaro suggested. "It might alert the Elachi to where we are." she told them all. "They'll catch us before we find Captain Nakamura."

"So that would insinuate we can't rescue all of them?" Takina observed.

Syaro simply looked down at the floor. She knew this from the start. Not everyone could be saved in this situation. However she didn't envy those who were being held captive here. She chose not to respond to Takina, simply look down at the floor sadly.

It turned out, she didn't need words, as her silence more than conveyed her message to the away team. And it would seem they were just as much at a loss as she was, for they now had a very tough decision to make.

"There's gotta be some other way," Chisato finally resolved. "Maybe some sort of master control system we can utilize to open all the pods at once?"

Maybe we can tag her for transport?” Nezuko suggested. “We have her exact coordinates. When we call for extraction we transmit the location and they pull her out too. She stays asleep until then.

"But just how many people can the Tokyo beam out at once?" Takina replied, gesturing to the literal thousands of people being held within the pods.

"We can beam hundreds out at once with wide area targeting," Nezuko answered. "But the shields should be lowered in the vicinity of the beaming. We worked to tunnel a transporter beam through shields and it can be done in ninety-second bursts, but we did not anticipate the quantity of victims. If we can get the shields down even briefly and locally we can get this many out in just a few minutes."

"I like your thinking, Lieutenant," Chisato agreed before tapping her combadge. =A=Nishikigi to Tokyo; come in, Tokyo.=A=

Instead of a reply all they got was static. Either the Tokyo was out of range or they were far too deep fir a signal to make its way out.

"Welp, so much for that idea," Chisato sighed. "Looks like it's time for Plan B..."

Before she could continue, however, a door opened just behind them and a lone Elachi sporting a white lab coat and some sort of monocular attachment to its right eye strode in, its attention currently fixated on a small, tablet like device. It happened to glance up and stopped dead in its tracks when it realized it was staring down no less than 8 unrestrained and well-armed humanoids; however, once the initial shock had worn off, instincts kicked in and it reached for a device on its belt.

Before the Elachi could reach the device, Chiyo shot it off the belt as the remaining marines quickly rushed the Elachi, tackling it to the ground and wrestling a communication device away from it. The device slid to a stop at Chiyo's feet, where she stepped on it, crushing the device and rendering it useless.

"Well, uh... this was unexpected," Chisato remarked as the Elachi was helped into a sitting position and its arms secured behind its back.

"Well, you did ask for a Plan B," Takina was quick to point out.

"True that..." Chisato muttered as she cautiously approached the Elachi.

"Alright, then, let's cut straight to the chase," she began. "Provided you want to get out of here and back to the Mycelial Network in one piece, we need some answers: first thing's first, how do we get these people out of here?"

The Elachi remained silent.

"We know you can understand us," Chisato emphasized.

The Elachi didn't seem to respond. Instead it began to twitch and then went into a full on spasm. It began to shake and shudder repeatedly for a few seconds before stopping and becoming completely still.

"You know..." Syaro said. "The Elachi just self-destruct on capture..." she explained. "I think they have some sort of biological kill switch built into them. When Captain Nakamura and I escaped, she tried something similar... And it ended exactly like this..." Syaro sighed.

"Darn it!" Chisato scowled. "These guys thought of everything..."

"Well, it looks like it wasn't all for naught," Takina replied, holding up the tablet that the Elachi had dropped in the ensuing scuffle.

"Good thinking, Takina-Chan!" Chisato applauded as she got up to join her brunette cohort. "We may still be in business..."

Nezuko took the tablet and set it on the nearest flat surface. Her own tricorder in hand, she was able to wirelessly access the device's contents. She downloaded all locally stored data, keeping it on a fully isolated drive in case there were any defensive malicious coding.

There was a biometric key for unlocking access, but thankfully there was a fresh Elachi corpse at their feet.

"We now have full access to their computer," Nezuko reported. "The translation matrix is imperfect but should be adequate. We can download any information we need and possibly affect systems. We also have a detailed map."

"Can we use it to open the pods?" Chisato asked.

"And if we can, is there a way we can put down the baby Elachi without harming the... 'Mothers'?" Chiyo added.

Nezuko held up one finger and started looking into it, brow furrowed. It was a very good idea.

Syaro looked over. "Wouldn't killing the baby Elachi be morally wrong?" She asked. "By Starfleet standards, they're innocent sentient life right?" She asked curiously. "Do we... cross 'that' line here?"

"Simple fact of the matter is, they're still the enemy." Chiyo pointed out. "As difficult as these bastards are to kill, we'd be doing ourselves a favor by culling their population. Maybe you regs disagree, but I think its damn well past time we take the battle to them."

"But take a moment to place yourself in their shoes, Major," Chisato appealed. "Yes, what the Elachi have done to these women is inexcusable, but would killing off their young make us any better than them?"

"Kinda difficult to put myself in their shoes when they think of everything." Chiyo responded. "Commander, you have eyes: You saw what happened to that Elachi scientist we tried to take prisoner."

They do not value their own lives,” Nezuko observed at Chiyo’s prompting. “Nor do they value ours. From what we can tell the birthing process is fatal to the host. It is very likely our people or theirs.” All of this ‘said’ with one hand quickly typing into a side screen on her tricorder. Then she looked up and nodded to Chisato. “I believe we can use the pods’ built-in medical support systems to induce the death of the unborn Elachi. It will likely be deeply unpleasant for the hosts but not permanently so.

"The birthing process isn't fatal." Syaro said. "It's just very painful..." she admitted as she looked away briefly. "I'd rather not go through that again." She told them all.

A strange wailing noise began to sound throughout the room. Several nearby pods all illuminated brightly. Unlike the others these were empty, yet the inside were lit up like a display cabinet. A few seconds later several people were transported I'm. These were all women, wearing Starfleet Uniforms, all just beamed in fresh from the USS Tokyo...

"What the hell?" Takina muttered.

"Wait- aren't they from the Tokyo?!" Chisato recognized.

"Son of a bitch!" Chiyo gasped.

"But I thought we were using a rotating shield frequency to prevent the Elachi from abducting us!" Takina was quick to point out.

"Even still, it would appear as if they've managed to find a counter-solution to circumvent our shielding algorithms," Chisato surmised. "Which would mean..."

Her eyes widened at the implication. "Oh, no..."

"Those bastards..." Chiyo grumbled, the shock giving way to anger.

Nezuko’s eyes simply went wide as she understood the implications.

Chisato turned to the marines. "Get them out of there, Major; I don't care if you've gotta smash the tubes to free them, just get them out!"

"No need to tell me twice!" Chiyo said, breaking open the first pod with the butt of her rifle. "Everyone, grab something that can be used to break these damn tubes open!"

Syaro let out a sigh. She walked over to a nearby pod. Just to the left of the glass was a small control panel. She pressed a finger against a big circular yellow button. The glass front of the pod slid open like an automatic door. "Or... you could just open them..."

Alas, her advice had fallen on deaf ears, as the marines were too preoccupied with their "smash & grab" strategy to pay much heed, and were even joined in their efforts by Takina.

There are too many to do this for everyone,” Nezuko called out as she tried opening a few at a time with her connected tricorder.

One by one, the abductees began to stir; staggering from their pods in a torpid state, they gradually filtered out into the front of the chamber, where they finally reached a state of cognizance to fully take in their unfamiliar surroundings.

"What's going on?"

"Weren't we just..."

"Oh, my God! There's something inside of me!"

"Be quiet!" Syaro said to them. "If you carry on like this the Elachi will find us!"

A hush fell over the abductees as they all turned to look at Syaro.

"Now, then!" Chisato began once she had ascertained that she had everyone's full, undivided attention. "I understand you all have lots of questions for us, and we intend to answer them to the best of our given ability; but right now we're in a dangerous location and have to prioritize getting out of here in one piece, so I need you all to stay close and follow our instructions! Am I being clear?"

The abductees looked at one another before nodding their heads in deference.

"Captain Nakamura is down here..." Syaro said as she pointed down towards the long line of tubes. "She's not far from the end of the room, at least thats where she was when we broke outm originally." she explained as she began to lead the away team.

"Ugh, God, sorry about that..." Mizuki grumbled as she stumbled back into view, only to witness the away team now leading a very sizable crowd deeper into the chamber.

"Hey! Wait up, you assholes!" she called out as she hurried to join them.

Suddenly a loud klaxon began to wail, echoing through the room and seemingly the entire base. It was followed by an audible announcement and warning which their Starfleet comm badges quickly translated into Federation Standard.

"WARNING. MULTIPLE SUBJECT BREACHES DETECTED. AUTO DESTRUCT ACTIVATED. 15 MINUTES. WARNING. MULTIPLE SUBJECT BREACHES DETECTED. AUTO DESTRUCT ACTIVATED. 14 MINUTES AND FORTY SEVEN SECONDS..."

To be continued...
