Mission:
Preserving The Past
Location: USS Tokyo Sickbay
Previously on Star Trek Tokyo:
A slight smile crossed Nyx's face, "Then what we need is more a plan to keep her on board at least one more full day, minimum, not just one to get her back on her feet and able to walk. This is assuming that your Captain is dead set on sending her back, of course." She glanced over Amu, the subject now having been broached, it would be appropriate to mention it, "But can I assume that you're making sure your fellow medical staff is checking you out as well? Everything normal and on schedule, taking your prenatals and getting enough exercise?"
"Sort of... I guess... Well... Maybe no..." Amu said sheepishly. "I've been giving myself the 'one over' ever now and again. Its been super busy around here, and we lost our last Chief Medical Officer some time ago. I don't feel comfortable with that damn 'Emergency Medical Hologram' thing either. Personally technology shouldn't take away the whole 'Human' side of being a doctor... Or, Betazoid side... You get my meaning right?" Amu explained, trying to absolutely bullshit her way through an explanation. "As far as I can tell, this little one is doing ok. We had a scare a while back, but thats a totally different story." She ran a hand over her bump. "Thirty Four weeks as of two days ago."
And now the continuation...
Nyx took another quick glance around, noting again the size of the sickbay and sighed, whispering to herself, "Don't yell, don't yell.." And exhaled, "The EMH has it's uses, but no personality to speak of. But, since you are quite clearly behind on your scheduled examinations and the fact that our other patient isn't here yet, it means that we have the time to check you out." She gave Amu a forced smile, her mind already running through what sort of readings she should be looking for even as she reached out to take Amu's elbow and began to guide to her to one of the biobeds, "As I'm sure you're aware, it's extremely important to check on child development at regular intervals throughout pregnancy. And since you're about five weeks out from being full term, you should have a plan for the birth such as the who will be your attending or midwife? You do have a plan, right?"
Amu rubbed her arm nervously. It was obvious she was face to face with a doctor who was just as serious about her patients as she was. "The plan is to report to sickbay and give birth to the baby when he decides to grace us with his presence..." Amu said. "With my partner being off ship due to all civilians being transferred off ship, I was hoping that Nurse Miyafuji would be the one helping me with it all. I guess you could say that the plan is kinda... not complete?" She looked around the sickbay for a few seconds. "There are plenty of medical officers who can assist, but I'm the only one with a M.D. on board at the moment; and as a ship that doesn't have many children aboard, we don't have any midwives or paediatricians..."
"I know its not perfect, especially with three officers currently expecting. Captain Aisaka included, but its all we've got to work with due to the current situation with the Iconians and everything..." She tapped on the screen and brought up her own medical files. "I mean, if you want, feel free to have a look. Although, you should be aware that the 'trouble' I mentioned earlier was... traumatic..."
"Criminal negligence by a Captain, only one doctor..." Nyx muttered to herself as she took a very quick glance over medical files, scanning for any issues and finally slowing down as she found the 'trouble' that had been referred to, "It's not just 'not perfect', it's downright wrong. Captain Aisaka should know better." She was speaking without really even noticing what she was saying as she read deeper in, "Need any help sitting on the bed while I make the scans?" She finally tore her eyes away from the screen and picked up the tricorder sitting by the biobed, at least it was organized in here, "We'll run you through the standard battery of tests and make sure that you're all rikky-tik."
"Luckily, the Tokyo has biobeds that can go up and down " Amu smirked. She walked over to a biobed and tapped on the panel at the end. It slowly lowered down as if disappearing into the floor. After a few seconds it was at 'Chair height' and Amu simply sat herself down on it. "One of the 'benefits' of being on such a highly advanced starship." She winked.
Nyx glared at the bed as if it had betrayed her just by being in existence, "Kanna doesn't have these, neither did Unicorn or the Doss." The Betazoid muttered and sighed even as a growl-whine came from the bed behind her where the drakeling was still behaving. She began to slowly wave the tricorder downwards to get the most detailed scan possible, then detached the sensor probe and still slowly moved it around Amu's stomach without touching, then she looked into Amu's eyes, "May I touch? It'll give the best readings."
"Yeah sure, no problem." Amu said with a smile. She quickly unzipped her medical tunic. Underneath she was wearing the cropped variant of the undershirt, her bump now bare. It was perfectly smooth, no signs of any stretchmarks and occasionally an observant eye could see the unborn baby boy inside kick or move. In the very center her navel stood out, protruding outwards. Even though Amu admitted to not having regular checkups throughout her pregnancy, her physical condition seemed immaculate.
The probe was gently placed against her bare stomach as was the edge of Nyx's hand and she passed it across the stomach in a circle as her eyes stayed on the readings now that she had permission. "Fetal heartrate is one-twenty-two, no abnormalities there, no placental abnormalities either." She removed the probe and hand, then scrolled up to check on other levels, "I'm seeing a minor deficiency in B12 levels as well as vitamin D, you're not getting enough natural sunlight. Those are easy to remedy, though, and neither is at any sort of dangerous level, just slightly low."
"Thats to be expected. We don't often get chance to pull up to a star and sunbathe." Amu laughed. "Plus, away missions to planets are strictly off limits for me at the moment. Obvious reasons." she added with a smile. "So, take some Vitamin B12 and D vitamins, or have the replicator add it into meals. That sound about right to you?"
“That, and…” Nyx bit her lower lip as she thought about it, “No, that should be sufficient to bring the levels back up to the norms. I was debating a hypospray of them, but I’d rather avoid that if possible.” She mused out loud, “And if Kanna is in the area when you’re about to give birth, I want you to comm me. I’m sure nurse Miyafuji would do just fine on her own, but I want to make sure there’s someone, not something, here if complications arise. Unless I could…” She broke off her musings as she reset the probe back into the tricorder and placed it where she got it from before clearing the medical file from the screen, “But, now we just need our other patient back so we can get started with her, unless you wanted to handle that on your own?” Again it was an absent motion with a hand, then a rising three toned whistle and the drakeling on the bed instantly flapped into motion and launched itself off and onto the arm, carefully not leaving marks on the bare skin before curling around Nyx’s neck.
"I think she'll be sleeping by now. Its quite late ship time," Amu replied. "But, I've still got a few hours of duty to finish. How about we come up with a full treatment schedule for her?"
“Make it two of them and it’s a deal.” Nyx pointed out, “One for if we can keep her an extra day or two, one for if we can’t. Expect victory, plan for defeat and be prepared for chaos.”
Amu nodded. "Its a deal. Lets do this!"
