Very fit, she maintains as much of her physique as she can from her time as a marine, but has upgraded her wardrobe to the point where she'll wear variations of uniforms, so long as she looks good in them. Personality & Traits
General Overview | Nyx has two sides of her, one is the light-hearted fashionista that she shows as often as possible, always obsessed with how she looks on the outside. While this is almost a throwback to when she was younger, as she's grown older she's decided to make the most of her life and looks. The other side to her personality is ruthless and determined to never give up, grown that way in the heat of combat where she was a combat medic in the marine special forces. Ever since she changed from the Marines to Starfleet, the two sides found a balance rather than being at war with each other. | |
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths include: + Top-notch field medic + Good fashion sense + Doesn't panic in a tough situation Weaknesses include: - Overly obsessed with her looks - Easy to take offense - Has almost no empathic or telepathic skill (hears voices as if a whisper) |

Personal History | Nyxala Victoria Raine Brielle Valentine, commonly referred to as Nyx, was born to one of the major houses on the surface of Betazed, the 6th House, the House of Guardians whose sacred relic is the Bow of Raxzha. The eldest child and only daughter of Esvali and Minerva was destined to become the Wielder of the Bow when she was to turn 17, as had been the tradition of the family for centuries uncounted. This tended to coincide with around the normal time that Betazoids fully blossomed into their telepathic abilities. Growing up, Nyx was spoiled beyond all belief even as she prepared for the ceremony that was upcoming and was on the planet when the Dominion invaded and occupied the planet in 2374 when she was 10 years old. The Valentine family, pronounced 'Veil-en-teen', lost several cousins as well as an uncle and two aunts in the occupation before the Dominion were finally defeated and left. Nyx took to her training in even more of a furor, already starting to decide that she was going to go to Starfleet Academy and become an officer of Marines. Nyx was always one of those girls that enjoyed fashion and clothing and was constantly making sure she was always presentable at all time. When she was fourteen years old, most of her friends and classmates were coming into their own abilities, Nyx waited and waited, but her own gift never manifested beyond a bare whisper of everyone in the back of her mind. She was fifteen when she was brought to her grandmother, the matriarch of the family, who examined her with a fine toothed comb and without missing a beat told her mother that Nyx was broken and that Minerva was to make another daughter. From that moment on, Nyx never spoke to her grandmother again. Despite the clear dismissal of her grandmother's approval, on the day she turned 17, Minerva, the Wielder of the Bow of Raxzha, oversaw the ceremony to pass along the Bow to the next generation. Three months later, Nyx enlisted in the Federation Marines. After her Basic Training, Nyx was granted the privilege of the rank of Private, First Class and the official medic of Company B, 2nd of the 3rd of the 22nd Marine Division and assigned to the USS Daniel Daly, one of the fast transports that served as fast-response for any crisis located in the service area. There was a goodly amount of action in the Daly's area of responsibility and while she was the medic, Nyx always found a way to get into the thick of the fighting as if trying to prove that she wasn't a pushover. This drive drew the attention of some certain people after she was promoted up to Corporal at the age of 19 and she was invited to try out for a support role within the elite Recon units of the 22nd Division. Nyx rapidly proved her worth initially in the back of the teams, but always daring to move forward without hesitation when she was needed. In a particularly hairy situation, she even moved forward after several of the team members had been killed or wounded on an operation gone wrong, helping to complete the mission before the team fell back, collecting their dead along the way. She rapidly became a sergeant and a versatile member of whichever team she was a part of at a given time. At some point, the Marines in their ultimate wisdom, decided that it would be in the Recon Teams best interest to have a fully fledged MD along with them, but rather than try to accustom a trained doctor to the teams, recruited several medics to attend Starfleet Academy for intensive training courses. With a specialization that didn't include many aspects of Starfleet life, this meant that these medics also needed familiarization with other sections. After graduating with the Class of 2389, Nyx opted not to take the Hippocratic Oath with the other MDs because it seemed like a very hypocritical thing for her to do. As she said to her graduating officer, 'First do no harm, sure, but after that, all bets are off.' She returned to the Recon teams as a First Lieutenant and a key member of Team Delta of the 3rd Division. After getting in some training time with her new team members, they went off as was their want on various assigned missions rather than as an adjunct to the Division. During one mission on the world of Jourdain, where the world was in open revolt against the Federation-allied central government, her team was on 'Command and Control Suppression' detail, the team was falling back after completing their mission when they ran into a routine transfer of a battalion of troops from the front line. Over the course of the next six hours, Team Delta's ten members almost completely destroyed the battalion of six hundred, losing two of the team in the process and most others wounded. One of the critically wounded, Adams Janizowski, tried to get the team to leave him behind, but while the two still unwounded members shepherded the four other wounded to the Marine lines, Nyx remained behind in a desperation effort to save Adams's life, having to resort to an emergency heart surgery while they were still being hunted by the remnants. When the two hale team members returned, she'd had him bandaged up and ready for transport. It took a few months, but First Lieutenant Nyx Valentine was formally awarded the Federation Medal of Honor for her actions. Despite several other campaigns that were successful, the Corps finally decided that the experiment had failed it's intended purpose and transferred the trained MDs to their regional hospital ships, Nyx and two others being assigned to the USS Desmond Doss. For two years, Nyx languished on the Doss, treating the wounded and patching them up to go back to their units after they were healed up and back on their feet. Two years went by before she made the decision to transfer to Starfleet proper, so that she wouldn't have to see young men and women getting blown up or shot and have to be patched up to do the same thing over again. There was a good thing to go along with the transfer, however, because instead of a strict uniform code, Nyx found that with her new chief doctor, she could wear things she'd only been able to wear off-duty on the Doss. She began to have her uniforms custom tailored while she served on the USS Unicorn and early on in her time on the ship, the Unicorn responded to a natural disaster on the world of Drussel. Three months of the ship assisting on Drussel and saving the life of the Crown Prince, Nyx was honored with the gift of a hatching Drakeling egg, a rare honor to anyone not Drusselian. After three years of serving on the Unicorn, Lieutenant Commander Oswin Foldrad, the Chief Medical Officer, recommended Nyx to take over the medical department on the Nova-class USS Kanno. * A relative of the Drusselian Drake, the Drakeling is a cat-sized creature that has a two meter wingspan and no problems with taking flight. Drakelings resemble small dragons and can breath and ignite a flammable liquid in short durations, typically a small ball of fire. They are drawn to shiny things and tend to create a small hoard whenever possible. Their wings are made of carbon nanotubes and are nearly impervious to anything that could penetrate them. |
