Mission:
Preserving The Past
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: January 25, 2397
The girl stirred, a small groan eminating from her as she began to move under the blanket of the biobed. Slowly she opened her eyes to be met with blurred white light.
Amu, who was sat observing tapped her comm badge. "Sickbay to Captain Aisaka, Commanders Daxer and Johnson. She's awake." She pulled herself up out of the chair and moved over towards the young girl who was attempting to sit herself up.
As she reached the biobed, she placed a hand on her shoulder. "Easy there little one. Just relax, you've gone through a lot. Let your body come around naturally..."
Hearing the news Talia set off for Sickbay tapping her comm badge to respond as she did so. “On my way Amu.”
"On my way." Came Daxer's simple reply.
By the time they had arrived, the young girl was now sat up in the biobed and curiously looking around. The doors of the sickbay opened and finally Taiga joined them.
"How is she?" Taiga asked.
"Quiet and calm so far... I think she's a little confused as to where she is." Amu replied. "I still need to check for any loss in cognitive functions. So I think it's best if you speak with her."
“I can do that” Talia offered as she waited for a nod from Taiga before stepping across to the young girl’s bedside. “Hello” she offered a warm smile, hoping the universal translator would make up for any language barriers. “My name is Talia, can you understand me?”
The young girl nodded in response. "I am the one who they call Tahuna." She spoke, her voice delicate, sweet and soft. It matched her petite body perfectly. "Is this the ancestral realm? Have I passed from my previous life to the next?"
Talia offered a gentle smile. “It’s nice to meet you Tahuna. In answer to your question, no you haven’t passed into the next life, you’re very much alive. This…” she paused wondering how was best to describe their current situation. “You are in our medical facility, you were injured running away from one of our crew. She was worried she might have frightened you, so she followed you, do you remember that?”
"The strange person who appeared from the sky." Tahuna said. "They spoke in strange tongues. But I understand you now." She looked Talia up and down. "You look like us. But you are not like us. Are you gods creating life?" she asked noticing that Talia and both Taiga and Amu in the distance were noticably pregnant.
“We’re not gods Tahuna” Talia offered a warm smile. “The three of us are expecting children though, as you can see. Were explorers, we venture in what you call the heavens meeting new people just like you. When you fell you were hurt, our doctor….” she pointed to Amu, “healed you, she just wanted to be sure you were well before we return you to your people.”
Tahuna blinked a few times. "So you are like Kirok? The god who came many days ago? The one who came here in his sky-boat from far away?"
Talia looked towards Taiga before looking back at Tahuna. “That’s…right, yes.” She nodded. “But as I said we’re not gods, we’re simply here…following in the footsteps of Kirok, we’re explorers.”
"I want to see your sky-boat." Tahuna said a sparkle of curiosity glinting in her brown eyes. "I want to see the stars from high in the sky.'
“With your permission Captain?” Talia looked at Taiga awaiting a response.
"By all means show her around a little." Taiga said. She knew full well that she would have her memories altered before being sent back to the surface, so Taiga saw no harm in indulging her curiosity.
“In that case let’s go!” Talia grinned as she motioned to Tahuna. “I’ll show you a view of your world that will amaze you.”
Tahuna slowly moves slowly off the biobed. She pulled at the sickbay scrubs. "May I request my clothing back? These feel... itchy..."
“I can arrange that” Talia looked towards one of the nurses. “You can change in one of the offices, come with me I’ll show you.”
Tahuna nodded and simply and quietly followed Talia into one of the offices. A few moments later she emerged back in the original clothes she had been wearing. Her attire stood out amongst the Starfleet Uniforms, but she didn't seem to mind.
"This sky-boat has much magic," she commented as one of the Tokyos crewman walked through the automatic sickbay doors. She reached a hand out to Talia. "I... would like to..."
Talia smiled as she took hold of Tahuna’s hand, in her mind this was all good practice for when her baby was a grown child.
During the whole conversation, Daxer had been standing off to the side, mostly out of sight for fear of scaring her again. As Tahuna reached out towards Talia, Jen took this moment to step into the girl's view, kneeling down in front of her to be closer to her height. Inwardly, she hoped the girl wouldn't try to run from her again.
"My name is Jennifer. I was the one you were running from when you fell." She said, giving the girl an almost imperceptible smile. "Do you remember me?"
Tahuna gripped Talia's hand tighter. "You are the fast one. The one who chases." She said. "You chased me."
"That's because we didn't know if you were someone there to hurt us." Jen explained simply. "My job is to make sure everyone, including you stays safe."
"You are a warrior?" Tahuna asked.
"You could say that." Jen replied as she stood back up. "I help protect my people against those who would bring us harm. Since you're our special guest, my job is to make sure you're visit is a safe one."
Taiga stepped forward. "Hello Tahuna. I am Taiga Aisaka. I am the Captain of this ship. That means that I am the leader of everyone here." She said softly.
"You are an elder?" Tahuna asked.
"In a way, although I am not the oldest in the aboard. We work in different ways." Taiga told her with a smile. "If you need anything whilst you visit this ship, have Talia or Jen here ask me ok. I want your time here to be comfortable."
Tahuna's stomach rumbled. Taiga looked over at Talia. "I believe the first place you should show her is the mess hall. I do believe our new friend is hungry."
“By all means” Talia grinned. “Wait until you see what food we have here, you may need to experiment a little to find something that you like though.”
"I shall try your food." Tahuna said. "You have fruits?" She asked. It was obvious that she had a very simple pallet.
“We have lots of fruits” Talia nodded and smiled. “I’ll get you a nice selection to try.”
"Have fun you two, pop by later OK." Taiga told them both.
Talia nodded. “We will and we’ll see you then.”
"I'm going to tag along." Jen said, looking at Taiga. "Call me if you need me."
As Talia, Jen and Tahuna left Taiga let out a sigh. This mission just became more complicated, for all of them.
