Mission:
The Nursery
Location: Captains ready room
Timeline: Current
Thomas walked into the ready room behind the Captain. "I apologize Captain, I want to talk to you before... especially the tension you are showing currently regarding the current mission."
Taiga walked over to the couch, opting to sit there where it was more comfortable than behind her desk. "Tension... You bet I'm tense," she replied to him.
"Ok wrong verbage..." thomas replied as he thought about the proper word he wanted to use without it sounding too... lenient. "I've seen and heard of people who were out for blood and revenge, and it never turned out good for any of them. They were either killed, they got innocent people killed, or they ended up losing everything they had bringing them to justice." He finally sat down. "I know you feel responsible, but going with a hot head isn't going to make things any better for the crew, or the ones we are going to rescue."
"I'm not out for revenge," Taiga stated. She looked at Thomas directly in the eyes. "Yes the Elachi invaded this ship, destroyed the Oceania and now we know they abducted the crew. It's not about revenge, it's about showing them that we're not going to sit here and take their crap whilst they do what they want with our people." Taiga sat back on the couch. "I was in command of the task group which put Captain Nakamura in the position she is in now. So I have to be the one to save her..." she held her hands out. "Literally speaking, I have no intention of physically doing it myself. You and Ryuuji would never let me do anything like that in my current state!'
Taiga turned and looked over her shoulder out of the window. "I know you're concerned. You're a good first officer and a friend for being so. But there's really no need to be." She told him softly. "However..." she turned back to look at him. "In the interest of being fit for command, I have to listen to your perspective..."
"Not saying you are wrong in feeling those feelings, Captain. But there are other factors at play. Your guilt, your hormonal imbalance. We are going up against the enemy that caused you to lose a child you were carrying. Now you're carrying another. You have a lot to think about. If it was me I probably do the same thing. But I'm not. I've got to make sure you steer us straight."
"It was the Elachi who were to blame for my miscarriage." Taiga replied "That was due to being hit by a Romulan disruptor." She looked away briefly. "I understand your concerns. But I stick to my promises. I won't take any risks on this mission. Nor will I put this ship or our crew at risk either... You have my word on that."
"I do not intend on doing anything drastic such as removing you from command. I know we have talked about it. If the need arrises. I was just going to tell you, that Lt Johnson is expecting you. I would also like you to have a visit with the doctor. No offense Captain, but you aren't the most mobile at the moment. I do want to know we aren't causing you to over exert yourself. I would expect the same treatment if the rolls were reversed... and something other than pregnancy was affecting me."
"I can assure you I have no intention of over-exerting myself," Taiga replied to him. "However, if it will settle your mind then I'll make sure to go see them. But I need to be on the bridge when we approach that Elachi base." she told him.
"As you should be, but you will not be on any away teams. Captains place is on the bridge..."
"I have no intention of going on any away team." Taiga stated. "In fact, I want you to lead the rescue mission. You have a tactical mind and you've proven to me that you know what you're doing. What do you think?"
"I will make the arrangements." Thomas agreed. "I do have some precautions I do want to go over as well... perhaps with Miss Daxer, I assume she will be taking over security, seeing how Lt Leon has been transferred out."
Taiga nodded. "She is most qualified. Plus, she has her own orders yo follow by Starfleet Intelligence."
"Don't you just love starfleet Intel..." Thomas replied sarcastically. "Don't get me wrong they are a necessary evil. But its their methods."
"Thats all I can tell you unfortunately. But it is reassuring to know that Starfleet is taking this seriously. The Elachi are now becoming a bigger threat to all of us, especially after learning about this 'Nursery'." Taiga replied. Her hands instinctingly went down to her belly, slowly running over its smooth roundness.
"I would like armed security on bridge, and all major areas including the bridge, main engineering, behind a forcefield. Considering the last time we were boarded, but it is something I will talk to Miss Daxer about."
"Good idea. We should also protect sickbay, armouries and the flight deck." Taiga added.
"Anything you require of me before I leave."
Taiga shook her head. "I think I've got everything under control." She told him. "But... thank you for this. I need someone to keep me grounded at times."
"Don't get me wrong Captain, I am gunning for your job, wouldn't be here if I wasn't aiming for the center seat. But there is still more.to learn. There is a right way, and a right time for all things."
"I think you'd make a damn fine Captain one day Tom." Taiga said giving him a smile. "However, unlike you I was never gunning fir this role. I was originally field promoted from Exec after only a year aboard." She explained. "I signed onto Tokyo as her executive officer on day one." She seemed to look across the room enjoying the nostalgia. "However, a lot has changed since those days."
"Well, things happen when they are supposed to. And how they are supposed to." He replied as he leaned back. "LT Johnson is waiting for you on the bridge."
