Mission: Preserving The Past
Location: USS Tokyo & Starbase 234

Taiga stepped out of her ready room and onto the Bridge. All was relatively quiet at the moment. She looked over at the viewscreen to see Starbase 234 looming over them. It wasn't exactly a huge starbase, but it was still far bigger than the Tokyo.

"Commander," she said approaching her Executive Officer. "Ready to go? We don't want to be late for the Admiral."

Thomas looked to the base. "Truth be told, I wasn't sure we would get back here. Glad I was wrong."

"I know that feeling." Taiga smiled softly. "Come on then, let's go see what awaits us next" she began walking towards the turbolift that would take them both down to the transporter room.

"Being the first officers to meet the Iconians... I take it we will be interrogated for what we know... myself moreso considering my more... extended stay with them."

"Fantastic," Taiga sighed. "Although we've been here three weeks now, doing nothing. I guess it's taken this long for the brass to all read and then discuss our reports..." The turbolift doors shut behind her. "Not to mention we somehow discovered all that data from M'Tara that somehow ended up in our computer core. He'll, there's so much it'll take years to go through it all."

"Just wish she would have let us at least try to save her." He walked out of the lift as the doors opened. ""Starfleet Intel, Starfleet Security, Hell, I have been getting notices from the Cardassian and the Klingon wanting to know what they could possibly do to protect themselves."

"Does that surprise you?" Taiga asked ad the tirbolift began it's journey. "Not fifty years ago the Iconians were thought to be extinct. And now they're back with superior numbers and technology. Not to mention they're hell bent on revenge. Honestly, they could have attacked the moment they jumped that Sphere back into this galaxy." She paused. "But now they wait, it makes it worse. We don't know when they're coming or where. We just know that they will."

"Something tells me we won't have long to wait." Thomas replied as he looked at the new uniform.

[Starbase 234 - Admirals Office]

It wasn't long until both Taiga and Thomas were shown into Admiral Tempest's office. He was sitting behind his desk, flicking through a PADD when they arrived. A small woman stood to his side. She had chocolate brown skin, dashing green eyes and hair tied up in two large twintails. She looked no older than Taiga and she wore the same command uniform, complete with four rank pips on her collar.

"Captain Aisaka, Commander Johnson. Welcome," Tempest said rising to his feet, his long blue hair swishing as he stood. "This is Captain Shauna Williams of the USS Kanna." He introduced the young captain.

"Nice to meet you Captain." Taiga stated.

"Woah, you're huge!" Shauna exclaimed.

"Excuse me?" Taiga asked a scowl starting to form.

"I knew you were pregnant from the reports I've read, but I didn't realise that you would be this far along! Boy or girl?" Shauna asked excitingly.

"Well... I don't know ye..." Taiga was cut off by Tempest who cleared his throat.

"If you wouldn't mind. Please all three of you take a seat. We have a lot to get through." He told them skipping right to business.

Taking a seat, he leaned back. "Whats the latest Intel we got from the Iconian sector?"

"They've gathered tens of thousands of ships." Tempest replied. "They seem adamant on not letting anything or anyone in and out of the system. However, I have invited you all here to discuss another matter..."

He tapped a button on his desk and the lights dimmed. A wall console illuminated to their right. "Starfleet Intelligence has been looking over the Iconian data retrieved so far from the Tokyo's computer core. It seems as if the Iconian formerly known as 'M'Tara' has revealed the first step in their plans." Tempest explained. "They seem to be focused on finding an ancient race known as 'The Preservers'." He explained.

"The preservers?" Taiga asked. "You mean the first sentient life in this galaxy?"

Tempest nodded. "Yes. Luckily, we know the location of a Preserver 'archive' as we've come to call it." The screen switched to show a star system. "The planet Amerind. Discovered by the Starship Enterprise in 2268."

"Wait, I've read those old reports," Taiga said. "Isn't that planet inhabited by a pre-warp civilization?"

Tempest nodded. "Correct. So we need to be extra careful." He told them.

"Captain Williams here may be young, but she has one of the best science crews in the sector. Your mission is to escort the USS Kanna to Amerind and provide protection whilst her people research 'The Preservers'." Tempest told them all. "The Kanna is a Nova Class science vessel. So, we need you to defend her if the Iconians decide to show up and make a scene out of it."

Taiga nodded. She didn't like the idea of 'babysitting duty', but she understood the need to watch out for a lightly armed science ship.

"We don't know what is down there. But the Prime Directive still applies. You must not make contact with the natives." Tempest told them all firmly.

"The herald that I was dealing with said something about them." Thomas replied, "He didn't elaborate but it seemed crucial."

"That's why you are to investigate. If the Iconians are interested in the Preservers there has to be a reason. That reason could be an advantage for us." Tempest said simply.

"The Iconians are often seen or referred to be ancient civilizations as gods, or 'The First Beings'. We now know this is not true. If The Preservers are indeed the first, then we could be looking at an ancient conflict." Shauna suggested. "For all we know The Preservers may have had technology or some method that defeated the Iconians, resulting in them being pushed out of the galaxy."

"Of that's so. Then having that on our side would be a essential," Taiga said as she looked over at Thomas.

"There's no evidence or guarantee of that." Tempest said. "But a good theory nonetheless." He stood up from his desk as the lights illuminated again. "Return to your ships. Get your crews ready and you ship out tomorrow morning." Tempest told them.

"Dismissed."

Taiga stood up after giving the Admiral a understanding nod. "We have a ship to prepare Commander." She said to Thomas.

"Are you sure its going to be enough... they are literally millennia ahead of us. Amything about their defences we could us recovered from the data."

"We'll have to do with what we have," Taiga said with a sigh as they left the Admirals Office. "And it's probably not going to be enough. Let be honest, we're up a creek here, with no paddle in sight... and the sharks are beginning to circle..."
