Personality & Traits
General Overview | Kaede is a caring and loving personality. She will go over the top to protect those she cares for and her crew. She can be considered a little reckless at some times, and sometimes she acts without fully thinking. She is however rather intelligent and has the ability to assimilate large amounts of information easily. She likes to protect others, especially the vulnerable under her whom she believes needs protecting. This is why she chose to become a doctor, that and with the fascination she had with life and biology. Kaede has seen two wars in her early Starfleet Career so has seen death, destruction and felt grief and depression. She has also commanded ships in battle, sometimes she has an internal struggle against how she feelts against her experiences mainly of that of guilt and grief but she doesn't always let this get in her way. Kaede on duty is a very capable commander, she had learnt to truth the judgments of the people around her and she sees her crew as her family. She believes in her heart that she is the 'Mother' of the 'Matriach' of the crew and that she needs to protect and look out for them. Off duty she canlet out a bit of her wilder side, especially if she has consumed alcohol. She enjoyed a good sing along, party or trying to hook people up. She enjoys 'spreading the love' and making people happy. She has recently found her own true love when she married her long childhood friend Nagisa. She plans to have a family with him one day. She has an unhealthy obsession with Tea. So far that she stores tea leaves and teabags in a special cabinet built info her read room. She never drinks replicated tea unless she has no other choice. Most of her teas she collects from Federation Worlds and keeps them stored correctly in her cabinet. She also has a small section of Cargo Bay Four for her collection, which also does include fine china and teapots she has collected. She rotates them out every now and again to keep things 'fresh' in her ready room. She believes that any problem can be solved with a good cup of tea and a calm conversation. (Just for reference, there's also a bottle of Vodka and Whiskey in the Cabinet. She claims she had 'Absolutely no idea' how they got in there, they still remain in there next to the Coffee Pot). |

Over time she ended up in the command tract and progressed from there. Her current ambitions are to command her ship the USS Yamato to the best of her ability. She is also looking forward to starting a family with Nagisa one day (hopefully soon). However at the moment she is content with her life and looks forward to every new day as she belives that it is a new page in a long book, a metaphor for life. | |

Personal History | Kaede was born on Earth on the island of Hokkaido, Japan's most northern isle on the 4th August 2349. During her childhood she was known for being small and young, this was due to her El-Aurian side of her. Although the Human side did help with her physical ageing they were always in conflict. People would often mistake her for being younger than what she really was and this would often result in her being walked home, or escorted to the authorities thinking she was a lost child. Her mother was originally a refugee from the planet El-Auria and had travelled to Earth several years before as a child aboard the Lakul, to be rescued by the USS Enterprise B. Throughout school she was picked on for how much of a child she looked. But it didn't affect Kaede because she knew that she would outlive them. She wasn't the smartest child in the school, infact she was far from it but she knew how to talk to people properly and always talked her way out of a fight or being beaten up. Her diplomacy skills were exceptional and on one occasion three bullies surrounded her and she ended up making them cry on the ground using her words only. As Kaede grew more confident she made a friend at school, who also turned out to be a El-Aurian/Human hybrid, Nagisa Shiota. The young boy whom she had made friends with was at first funny, even iconic as both Kaede's and Nagisa's mothers had settled in Japan after being brought to Earth by the Enterprise B. The two families soon became to know each other very well through their children and to Kaede's surprise, both their parents became good friends. This resulted in Kaede and Nagisa growing up together for many years. Throughout school Kaede was fascinated with her own body and wanted to know more about herself and others. She could often be found in the library, studying up on something or the other. She was also known well in the chemistry classes for being the 'Top Student'. She even helped Nagisa with his chemsitry homework, and often became frustrated when she couldn't get him to understand it. She had considered being a teacher, however she gave up on that quickly when she realised that she sucked at it big style. In was in her late teen years that she decided to explore more and to study into the field of medicine and see what others were like beyond Earth. It was in thse late teen years that her attraction to Nagisa grew stronger and stronger. There was definine sexual attraction between them, and eventually thats what happened. The two ended up dating each other, getting together at Sixteen. Kaede and Nagisa becoming a couple was something which their parents had foreseen happening, although Kaede never told either of them that they had both lost their virginities to each other at Sixteen after only three weeks of becoming an official couple. She worked hard throughout her late school years and suprised the teachers by achieveing excellent results. She applied and was accepted into the Tokyo Medical School at age Eighteen. Nagisa on the other hand had decided to join Starfleet as he was fascinated with the idea of exploring space. Even though Kaede wanted to eventually venture into the unknown, and perhaps one day find El-Auria again, she had decided to train as a doctor first. She wanted to put her skills to good use and help others where she could. She felt heartbroken that she had to leave Nagisa, but she understood that they needed to both grow up and go different ways with their life. She told him that she would always care for him, and that she would always want to be with him but they were both half El-Aurians and hopefully in time they would find each other again. In Tokyo she studied medicine and medical procedures for four years. Her time at the Medical School was hard for her, but she battled on. This was mainly due to Tokyo being a huge city and she found it difficult to cope moving so far away from home. It was in Tokyo when she was first introduced to Alcohol, and although at first she didn't particular like the taste of the stuff, she eventuallly learned to enjoy it. Drunk Kaede is a funny Kaede, she becomes more confident and likes to try and hook people up on dates. Many of them fail, although she did hook up a classmate with a boy she liked and they remained together to (as far as she is aware) the current date. Although she enjoyed her time at Medical School, she fooled around for the first year and in the remaining three years she buckled down and managed to hit the books hard. This didn't stop her from having fun along the way. She graduated from the Tokyo Medical School at twenty two years of age, after four years hard study with a First Class Degree, majoring in General Medicine and minoring in Surgery. To become a full M.D. she had to find a placement to do her two year medical foundation. Looking to the stars once again, she opened up an application to Starfleet Tokyo to do her medical foundation within Starfleet. Due to her First Class Degree she was accepted and entered the Starfleet Medical Academy in 2371. She was told that she could choose a field placement to do her Two Years of Starfleet Medical Training and she was offered a training position aboard the USS Voyager, however she turned that down as she wanted to remain on Earth to do her training at Starfleet Medical in San Francisco. A good choice otherwise she would have found herself in the Delta Quadrant. The first year was very rigorous and extensive classes on Xenobiology and how to use Starfleet Medical Technology. She was also traind in her first year on how to operate basic Starship Functions as well as how to survive in space. This included everything from how to operate spacesuits to survival training in the Gulf of Mexico. With her first year finished, she was assigned to do field training, to shadow a Starfleet Doctor on board a Starship for one year in the field and to finish any training she needed. This would also give her the experience she needed on Starships to enter full into service. Just before her assignment, Kaede got the news that her mother was pregnant with her sister. Kaede liked the idea of being a 'big sister'. She knew that because of her El-Aurian genes that her species were fully capable of having many children over hundreds of years so this didn't come as a surprise to her. She returned home towards the end of her mothers pregnancy to help her family prepare for the arrival of the baby. Her mother cried when she returned in her Starfleet Medical Cadet uniform due to pride and thankful that her first daughter had done so well. Only a few days later, Kaede's younger sister was born, she looked a lot like Kaede did as a baby. Kaede was her mothers birthing partner along with Nagisa's mother, and helped deliver the baby and assist the midwives. Her new sister Haruna was a blessing to the family, and she was proud that she had been there to help bring her into the universe. After helping her mother and father with Haruna for a few weeks, which she had taken off on personal leave she returned back to Starfleet to resume her second year of her medical foundation. The second year was an interesting year for Kaede as the Klingons and Federation were at war after the Battle of Deep Space Nine, just after she was assigned on her field training aboard the USS Kurosawa, which was a medical vessel. The ships main misison was to support medical issues within The Federation, however it was currently behind the front lines assisting any injured from the Federation/Klingon war. Kaede helped deal with multiple crew who were injured and had been assigned care on the Kurosawa. After ayear in the field she graduated the Medical Academy in 2373 she was assigned to the USS Challenger with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade as a Medical Officer. Kaede was aboard the Challenger when the Dominion War broke out. Luckily the Challenger wasn't one of the ships to be hit first, however it did see some action. As a medical officer she was rushing around trying to help the crew who had been injured in battle. Kaede was on the Challenger throughout the Dominion War and saw a lot of bloodshed and a lot of people die. During the War the Challenger assisted a badly damaged Romulan vessel and took on its surviving crew. Kaede along with the rest of the medical staff worked hard to save many of the Romulan crew, however some of them did unfortunately slip away from them. Kaede lost her first ever patient in this incident, a young Romulan female officer whom she had been trying to patch up and stabalise. It didn't work, not due to her inability but due to the extensive injuries the young woman had sustained. She tried to keep a lot of her fellow crew alive but sometimes she failed, as she lost many patients over the course of the war, as a Junior Doctor she often felt guilty for what had happened. With the Challenger badly damaged after the Dominion War Kaede and most of the crew were reassigned. This time she was assigned aboard the USS Thunderchild and due to her efforts aboard the Challenger was promoted to Lieutenant and Assistant Head of their Medical Department. Kaede enjoyed her time aboard the Thunderchild, it was an Akira Class Vessel and was more combat orientated than the Challenger. The Thunderchild had earned its name as one of the ships that had defended Earth against The Borg Invasion os 2373, so Kaede felt honoured to be serving aboard her. Her experiences with the vessel however were less 'action packed' as the Thunderchild mainly operated in the region of Earth as part of the new defense fleet that had been grouped after the extensive loss of Starfleet Ships during the Dominion War. She stayed aboard the Thunderchild for three years until Starfleet Medical approached Kaede as they needed a capable officer to take the Chief Medical Officer spot aboard the USS Intrepid. Since Starfleet was still recovering from the Dominion War ships that needed recrewing were asking for new officers regardless of age and experience as long as they had the qualifications. She accepted and transfered aboard the Intrepid in 2378. Kaede was finally looking forward to getting a bit further away from Earth and finally get to do some exploring. So far she had seen two wars, both had been bloody and horrible for many people. She wanted to finally get to see the good in the universe and stand proudly for what Starfleet and The Federation stood for. As the Chief Medical Officer aboard the Intrepid, Starfleet's First Intrepid Class Kaede enjoyed the medical facilities and making friends aboard a smaller ship. Although she hardly ever used the Emergency Medical Hologram, she found it to be annoying and didn't like the way it treated people. She was known to argue with it at times, some times she turned it on just for as a simple reason only to end up arguing with it. She found faith in herself and the Intrepid was assigned to keeping the peace along the borders of the Klingon and Romulan Empire often resulting in minor skirmishes but nothing too big. Nothing as big as what she had seen in The Dominion War. In 2383 the Intrepid's Captain Approached her after seeing her ability to command others effectively. He offered her a promotion in rank and position and promoted her to Lieutenant Commander as well as the ships Second Officer. She gained extra responsibilities, which she worked hard to try and do to the best of her ability. She never knew just how much work a command officer rank had to do. She generally thought they only gave orders and let everyone else do everything. She looked up and studied everything she could on the subject, just like she had done in her Medical School days. However Kaede didn't see herself as a person able to command. The Captain ensured her that it would secure her future in Starfleet. She had to take command a few times when both the Captain and Executive Officer were off ship and she found that she seemed to have a natural flare for it especially as she was good with talking to people. During an incident on the Intrepid both the Commanding and Executive Officer had been kidnapped by the Tholians as they claimed that the ship had trespassed into their territory. Kaede tried to come to a diplomatic solution. She managed to talk down the Tholians and negotiate the Captains and XO's release. However the Tholians only transported back the Captain before killing the XO on the screen to "Teach them a lesson for next time". Kaede was devestated. The Tholians hadn't kept their promise to her and she became angry at them. She ordered the Intrepid to open fire and for the first time she saw red. She hated people who broke their promises. Her Captain managed to drag her off the bridge, but not before the Tholian vessel had been destroyed. Kaede half cried half shouted at her Captain about the incident and was eventually calmed down. She was reprimanded for her actions, although the Tholians had killed a Starfleet Officer her reckless actions could have sparked a war. She was taken off duty to undergo assessment by Starfleet Medical and Command to determine if she should be serving on a Starship or be reassigned to a less front line role. A few weeks later she was told that Starfleet had decided to overlook what had happened on the bridge and the reprimand would be removed as she could be considered as "Emotionally Compromised". She was asked if she wanted to take the Executive Officer spot. It would help her work on her temper, plus it would give her the command experience she needed. She thought about it a few days and then accepted. This was because she wanted to become a better person, although she was still a doctor she decided to take this opportunity. She later discovered that it was the Captain of the Intrepid who had begged Starfleet to give her another chance, and that he would accept responsibilty for her, and that he wanted her to excel and refine her command skills which he knew she had. She served aboard the Intrepid again this time as the ships Executive Officer with the rank of Commander for five years. Those five years really changed Kaede. She got used to wearing the red uniform, and she passed her Bridge Officer's Test in order to be promoted to the rank of Full Commander. That was a hard ordeal for Kaede as she had to order several holographic recreations of her own crew to their deaths in order to save the ship. The Captain told her that she had to make those sort of decisions if she was to take command, and her responsibibility was to the safety of the entire sip, regardless of whom she was close to or not. After five years of relative peace in the Federation the Intrepid was recalled to Earth as its captain who was now in his late seventies had decided to step down and retire. Kaede by now considered him a friend and she was offered command of the Intrepid. She refused as she did not want to command the same crew. She didn't feel like she could 'fill the boots' of her previous Captain. The crew of the Intrepid were all for her taking command, however Kaede didn't feel like it was the right thing to do, especially since many of the crew were due to be rotated out in the next crew cycle anyways. Therefore she requested another assignment elsewhere as an Executive Officer. Starfleet assigned to the USS Yamato, a brand new Sovereign Class Starship but with one condition. She had to take a promotion to Captain and command the ship. It took several weeks for Kaede to decide, and eventually she accepted. It seemed that Starfleet wanted her to take up command quickly, for some reason unknown to her. In reality Starfleet had looked back at her record and had seen her potential as a future Captain. She was unsure about this suddent change of events and even considered resigning her commission. However she was pursuaded otherwise by her previous Captain who had visited her on the Intrepid, he made a special trip to see her even after he had retired. Sat her down like an old friend and gave her some home truths, telling her that she should take up the position and that she reminded him of his own daughter whom had been killed in the Dominion War. She couldn't refuse after that, she wanted to make him proud so finally accepted the position and rank increase to Captain. In 2390 she stepped aboard her fist command the USS Yamato and the ship was assigned along with the USS Tokyo and a handful of other vessels along the Romulan Neutral Zone. The Yamato stayed out in the Romulan Neutral Zone with her semi-permament crew made up of Engineers, Operations Officers and Science Officers whom were running the ship through her shakedown. Although she was technically the Captain of the Yamato, another Commander oversaw the ships shakedown which lasted Twenty Two Months. This was because the Yamato was constantly in and out of spacedock due to technical failures. The Yamato was a testbed for Starfleets newest Technology and experimental upgrades, including new Warp Engines and Science and Tactical Systems. Those Twenty Two months were hell for Kaede, she didn't like the idea of her first command always being in and out of the shipyards. Finally after Twenty Two Months of upgrades, tweaks and crew rotations the Yamato returned to Earth and was now fully commissioned as a fully Operation Starfleet Vessel. She was officially handed over to Kaede as an operation vessel in 2391. Kaede now had the task of finding herself a permament crew. The Yamato's first mission was to patrol the small area where space between the Federation, Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire met. This is where there had been increased Gorn raids into the area and the Yamato was a show of force against the raiders. Kaede commanded the Yamato in a mission against the Gorn who were raiding Federation outposts along the border after a brutal and inhumaine attack on the USS Athens. Kaede was surprised to bump into Nagisa again while the Yamato made a quick pit-stop at Deep Space K7. She was also surprised to learn that Nagisa had been transferred to her ship into her security department. It was then that she started to feel something for Nagisa, something which she had always felt but never seemed to admit. She spent some time with Nagisa again, which was nice. The Yamato's crew discovered that the crew had been butchered violently. On closer discovery it was discovered that the attacks were actually Gorn augments. Kaede and the Yamato were teamed up with two Klingon ships that had been assigned by the Klingon High Counsil to assist. After tracking down the augments Kaede was ordered to elimiate them, and the Klingons were only too happy to do so. However instead of eliminating them, Kaede chose the kinder technique to take out their facilities to make war, instead of commiting genocide which was a violation of what the Federation stood for, but the best decision to make as it representated Starfleet better. The Klingons took offense to this, but after she explained to them that she would protect innocent people and that it was dishonourable for a Klingon to murder others who were now unarmed, they soon accepted her decision and position. Shortly after Kaede was kidnapped by a rogue element of the Tal Shiar whilst back on Earth. The Tal Shiar commander was the brother of the woman that Kaede had lost on the Challenger and was wanting revenge against Kaede. But not in the usual way. He wanted to make her suffer to show her what pain he had gone through. She was humiliated by the Romulan Officers, such as tied up naked in their mess hall so they could shout insults at her, and abuse her in any way she wanted. She was held responsible for the death of the Tal Shiars Commander's Sister, and he seemed adament to hurt her in as many ways possible, both physically and mentaly. She was eventually rescued by the crew of the Yamato, under command of Director Matsumae and Lieutenant Commander Kablam. She was returned to Earth to undergo therapy to help her heal and recover from her ordeal. She sustained many different injuries and even gained a few physical scars from the experience. On return to the Yamato the Yamato was assigned to Theta Fleet and Kaede was offered the job of Task Force Commanding Officer of Task Force 23 by Admiral Burke. Shortly after returning from therapy from the encounter with the Tal Shiar Kaede returned to duty as the Captain of the USS Yamato. This is when Starfleet and the Federation was offered a new 'olive branch' by the Dominion. As the most senior ranking Captain in the sector and advanced starship, the Yamato was dispatched to Deep Space Nine to open up diplomatic relations with the Dominion. Unfortunately, the negotiations broke down after only a few meetings between The Federation, Dominion, Bajor, Romulan Star Empire, Cardassian Union and The Klingon Empire. This resulted in the Dominion launching an attack on Deep Space Nine and the Bajoran Sector. Kaede rallied all the Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers into one fleet, or any ships that were available and commanded them in battle against the Dominion in defense of DS9 and Bajor. During that battle the USS Yamato took heavy damage resulting in causing the ship unable to sustain her crew. Kaede ordered her crew to evacuate, then she tried to set the ship on a collision course with the lead Dominion Vessel which the Vorta was commanding from. The Autopilot turned out to have been destroyed, so she attempted to ram the ship manually. She was prevented from doing so by her Executive Officer Kablam. The Dominion retreated quickly from Federation Space, even though they were on the verge of victory. It happened that the whole battle and diplomatic conference had been a distraction for their real mission, to free the female changeling from Federation imprisonment. The ship that rescued her escaped back through the wormhole with the rest of the Dominion fleet. After the battle, Nagisa told her that he would never leave her and that she was too precious to him for her to be that reckless. He had protected her sister, whom was now in Starfleet and had somehow made her way onto the Yamato. He asked her to finally become official with him and to become a family together. Kaede knew that for the first time that Nagisa wanted more than just a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship and accepted to marry him once they could return to Earth together. The Yamato was towed back to Athena Ship Yards. Kaede was shocked to hear that the ship was unsalvageable. It was too badly damaged to warrant repair so would be broken up and recycled. For the next year she spent behind a desk on Starbase Typhon as the co-ordinator and fleet commander of Task Force 23. She hated sitting behind the desk and had a funny feeling that Admiral Burke, the fleet commander wanted her where she could see her. Meanwhile in Athena Ship Yards, the USS Musashi, the Yamato's sister ship was near to completion. She would have upgrades and refits that was tested and discovered on the Yamato. The Musashi was renamed to the USS Yamato, with the same registry and the letter B added to the end. During that year Kaede returned to Earth for several weeks to get some shoreleave and rest from the battle. It was on Earth where she married her best friend, whom she had been in a relationship with for the last few years, Nagisa Shiota. They married in a traditional Japanese Shinto Ceremony, which close friends and family were invited to. The after party however, most of the ships compliment showed up to celebrate with them. Kaede felt happy and beautiful as she married her best friend. She couldn't help but think about the people she had lost, those who had died in the Battle of Bajor as it was now known. She had seen evidence of change from her Executive Officer Kablam after he had prevented her from 'going down with the ship' against The Dominion. But she felt safe and secure with Nagisa. After eleven months, the Yamato B was launched from Athena Ship Yards, with Kaede in Command. During the time she had been on Earth for her wedding Starfleet had put her up for promotion. Authrosied by Admiral Burke, for her actions in commanding against The Dominion, even though the battle hadn't gone well, she was promoted to the rank of Commodore; the lowest rank in Admiralty. She was shocked to get to such a rank and at first didn't feel like she deserved it. However she accepted it and took the Yamato out of spacedock to set course on the ships newest mission to explore new space beyond current Federation borders. En route to an area of unknown space the Yamato picked up a distress call from the USS Repulse. Kaede without thinking ordered the Yamato to assist, she didn't want any more people dying when she could prevent it. What she didn't realise was that she was rushing to rescue the USS Repluse which had disappeared over twenty five years ago. The Repulse had fallen through a temporal anomoly into their current timeline. There was no possible way to return the ship to its previous timeline, and an expert was called in to assist Kaede with the temporal complications. It was technically a violation in the temporal prime directive, however sending the Repulse back would have destroyed the ship and killed the crew. Kaede didn't like that option so she managed to pursuade Command into the decision to keep the crew and ship in ther time. It was determined that the crew of the Repulse was to be retrained by Starfleet and allowed to stay in the current timeline, and the Yamato would tow the Repulse to the nearest shipyard. After returning the Repulse back to a shipyard, the Yamato turned around and headed towards unknown space. |
