Personal History Aika Thompson was the only child of James and Jessica, Starfleet Engineers who retired to Iadara Colony in 2364 when Jessica learned she was pregnant. They began working at some of the Iadaran engineering companies and started their family.

When their good friends Steffen and Karina Ingelbard had a family emergency, they eagerly took in their son, Vyse, for a few days. It was from here that Aika and Vyse became very close, lifelong friends. They went to school together, studied together, and never kept secrets. And when trouble started finding them, they dealt with it together.

They dreamed of adventure, of flying off of Iadara in a shuttle and never looking back, always their eyes towards the next cool thing to see. They took flying lessons together from a young age.

In 2375, the Jem’Hadar raided Iadara and James and Jessica Thompson were among the casualties. The Ingelbards took Aika in, adopting her as their own. Many kids would greatly suffer at the loss of their parents, but it ended up being the sort of thing which tempered her will into steel. No matter what life threw at her from there on out, she knew she could handle it. She stuck with Vyse and the pair agreed that nothing would ever stop them.

In late 2380, Aika and Vyse stepped in to stop a friend from being bullied by what turned out to be no-good thugs thinking they could get the local branch of the Orion Syndicate to notice them. They broke Aika’s arm and did a number on Vyse’s face. While they hadn’t exactly befouled the Syndicate, they did make Iadara a hard place to stay. And so in early 2381, Aika and Vyse were given what resources the Ingelbards could spare (including a decent shuttle and legal emancipation) and the two went on their way.

There they were, with no one but each other, free to adventure as they wanted, if a bit younger than anyone intended.

They spent ages 16 to 21 going from place to place, adventure on their minds. Even as Vyse got into trouble, Aika was there, and no matter how dire their circumstances, she would fight to the end. They took on jobs where they could when necessary, but otherwise explored the known galaxy.

When they were 22, they stopped on Archanis IV. They were outside a bar when they saw drunken Klingons picking on Romulan refugees, with a trio of wet behind the ears Starfleet cadets trying to stand between them. Aika was the first to join the cadets, and Vyse was right behind her. They took a good beating, but the refugees were spared any harm — they delayed the fight long enough for Security to arrive.

While in hospital, someone suggested Starfleet might be a good idea. Vyse seemed eager, and so Aika joined him in enrolling. They were older than their classmates by a far margin, but were popular for their stories and their antics. They graduated in 2391 and took a posting as Starfighter pilots at distant Golovin Colony airbase, having just missed the end of a conflict with Klingon insurgents that saw Golovin attacked.

Vyse and Aika were number three and four of Tàiyáng Valkyrie Squadron, doing a flyby of distant Fortuna Colony, when their next hopeless cause came about. The leadership of Fortuna thought themselves beyond the reach of the Federation and Starfleet and formed their own fiefdom, deciding to impose their own rules against the civilian population. Sentient Rights violations were flagrant. Tàiyáng Squadron intercepted a distress call from a group of civilians wanting help to rid their colony of would-be tyrants. The rulers of Fortuna fired upon Tàiyáng Squadron, destroying One, Two, and Five and forcing the other three down to the planet. Tàiyáng Four couldn’t be salvaged, and the other two suffered enough damage that they were in serious danger of catastrophic failure if they were hit even once by Fortuna’s anti-air defenses. Vyse and Aika, sharing a very tight cockpit, flew directly against the AA guns, dodging as best they could, distracting the guns while Tàiyáng Six flew back to home base with a witness of the Fortuna leadership’s crimes. They achieved this by essentially removing the warp engines, reducing the weight and making enough power available for supercharged impulse engines and inertial dampers. Tàiyáng Six got away, and Vyse and Aika took their ship down in the wilds outside the city and waited for recovery. Three days later, the USS Jupiter arrived onsite and deployed security personnel, seizing the colony, removing the leadership, and providing aid to those who suffered. Vyse and Aika each got promotions to Lieutenant junior grade.

In 2396, the pair was transferred to USS Tokyo to pilot two of the many Valkyries there.
