Personal History Masamune was born July 10, 2371 to Takao and Natsuki Busujima. The first five years of Masamune's life were the last five of his mother's, as Natsuki lost her battle to a chronic illness when Masamune was five years old. However, instead of leaving Masamune at an orphanage like he would have done for the first child he fathered, Takao decided to take Masamune under his wing and raised him as a single parent.

When Masamune was 10, his father began dating Kairi Izumi, and unlike his previous marriages, Kairi had a daughter from a previous relationship, a girl named Sagiri who was two years younger than Masamune. For three years, Masamune watched his father fall in love with Kairi, and when he was 13, Takao finally dropped on one knee and asked Kairi's hand in marriage. However, shortly before the wedding when Masamune was 14, Takao's luck finally ran out, and he and Kairi were killed in an accident. While Masamune was hurt by his father's passing, Sagiri was devastated, as she had been especially close to her mother, and following the funerals, Sagiri became incredibly withdrawn.

Feeling that taking care of Sagiri was what his late father and fiancé would have wanted, Masamune became Sagiri's caretaker. However, In light of Kairi's death, the extreme degree of Sagiri's social withdrawal began taking a toll on Masamune, as she refused to leave her room unless it was to use the bathroom. As the years dragged on, Masamune came to realize that Sagiri's withdrawal was slowing his own life down. Not wanting to live like that anymore, when Masamune turned 18, he took the entrance exams for Starfleet Academy. When his application was accepted, he prepared one last meal for Sagiri and left it outside her door before telling her that he was heading off to Starfleet Academy, and that if she starved to death while he was away, then it was on her.

In the Academy, Masamune learned a great deal about being a Starfleet officer, and the prospect of being in the Starfighter corps appealed to him, and so he chose to specialize in piloting when it came time to choose paths. As he learned about piloting, Masamune found out that pilots had a recommended daily workout regimen. Not thrilled about working out, Masamune decided he would only meet the recommended regimen so that he would be capable of withstanding being in a cockpit.

When Masamune graduated in 2393, he was assigned to the USS Haruna and it's small starfighter wing. He enjoyed his time aboard the New Orleans class starship, and he even did good enough to earn himself a promotion to Lieutenant JG. However, the good times came to an end in 2395, when Shimakaze Zh'gero, a racist Andorian, took over command of the Haruna. Shimakaze was quick to replace most of the senior staff with Andorians, and she had her methods to force the remaining non-Andorians to retire, resign, or accept transfers. This included Masamune, who took a transfer to starfighter patrols in Sector 001 that Shimakaze had offered him.

Masamune served in the Sector 001 patrols for a year before deciding that he wanted to get back out there on a Starship, and he began perusing open fighter positions. The USS Tokyo caught his eye and he applied for a transfer to the Armitage class carrier. Masamune's application was accepted, but little did he know that doing so had set him on a collision course to meet a half sister he never knew he had.
